For those of you who haven't watched that interview….um…..I think Ernie Hudson dropped a spoiler at the beginning on another actor in the film….not sure if it was confirmed or not prior to that interview but I hadn't heard anything so……yeah avoid it if you don't want a potential spoiler

Hot take: This is a better song than the theme from the first movie.

This movie treated its legacy characters better than the Star Wars sequels did.

I had the cassette single as a kid. Wore it out.

I loved it. Not a perfect movie, but after waiting almost three years since I first found out it was being made it gave me everything I could have wanted minus Rick moranis.

Not a perfect movie by any means, but it was still fun...and I dunno which it felt better hearing on the big screen again, the proton pack start up, or Ectos siren

Just hearing Annie Potts gave me goosebumps. I laughed more than I expected and got a little emotional. Now I'm curious if they keep going with it. I hope the box office numbers are good.

If the critics are having luke warm receptions or not liking it.

And TCTTS is like "so above this now"...

Then I will probably enjoy it this evening.

Well you did refuse to watch Eternals because of critic reviews.
TCTTS

No, I didn't. I said I probably wasn't going to pay money in the theater for it, but that I'd watch it when it got to Disney+. Which is a perfectly reasonable response to a movie that never looked all that great to me to begin with, and then started getting relatively bad reviews, from all kinds of people I usually trust or agree with.

It's really weird that you guys are basically like, "What a putz for not being as excited for a movie after reading bad reviews." Especially when so many people on this very site choose not to see all sorts of things because of negative reactions posted here. Like, reviews are a factor millions of people take into consideration when deciding to see any given movie or not, and it doesn't make them sheep for taking them into consideration.

That, and there have been countless times I've seen, loved, and raved about stuff here that didn't get great reviews. So I'm not some zombie beholden to critical opinion. But I guess because it's Marvel or Gostbusters or whatever I'm not allowed to not express endless enthusiasm, even though I've been one of the biggest hype men for all this stuff over the years…

It was weird coming from the guy who was crusading for the theater experience when someone said they'd watch Dune at home.
TCTTS

I can "crusade" for the theatrical experience in a rational manner. I'm not going to spend money on something I don't particularly want to see *just* to support movie theaters. But if someone actively wants to see a movie, and they have the choice of seeing it at home or in the theater, I'm of course going to encourage they see it in the theater. However, telling someone to go see something in the theater that they don't want to see - or me doing the same - is something totally different, and an excessive thing to encourage or do.

But you do want to see it, since you're going to watch at home.

Surely you can see the irony.

Eternals? I'll see it out of "obligation"/for the sake of completion, because I've seen the previous 20+ MCU movies/series, and I want the full MCU experience.

But my point is, you guys are making it sound like I'm absolutely refusing to see it and Ghostbusters because I read some bad reviews and are implying that I can't think for myself, that I'm depending too much on critics. While I'm simply saying, no, I'll eventually see Eternals, even though *I* personally think it doesn't look all that great AND I read quite a few discouraging reviews.

There's a difference.

I like Irony. I'll be watching Ghostbusters in the theater this afternoon after watching what is most likely a better movie (Dune) at home.

just got out. with my two boys, ages 9 and 7.

they loved it. and i loved it. but it took me awhile. it starts slow.

and then i realized because of my two kids, that it had to.

the original movie came out in 1984-1985 and i was 3 at the time. that was 36 years ago and while the original is still one of my favorite IPs of all time. this generation has no idea what any of it is. they had to use the first 2 acts to introduce a series of new generations to the Ghostbusters, and it took me awhile to realize this.

the 3rd act is great. and where it gets super fun, and while the movie is chalked full of nostalgia (the audio is what got me) for us adults isn't overused because it would fall on deaf ears with the kids.

is it perfect? no… but as long as you go into it with the idea that we were kids when this came out and this movie is made to capture the hearts and imagination of a new generation, like the originals did for us, you'll love it.

take your kids with the frame of mind that this movie isn't made for adults. this movie is for the kids of the adults who adore the originals.

kind of goes along with my above post. i was grinning ear to ear when the ecto siren went off and then i realized my kids had never heard it before. they were kind of looking at me like "why the hell are you fist pumping and smiling so much"

The pacing of the first 30 minutes was pretty slow, but the final 30 was pretty great.

Hollywood really doesn't like fracking lol

Didn't say hate. This one just did some things differently that let the kids and adults enjoy it. And they found a way to pay tribute to Harold. I thought a third was over when he passed. Kudos to whoever came up with the plot.

There is definitely a contingent of hardcore fans that don't like the second and for some reason ask if it's canon. I don't understand that. It seems the 2016 movie has taken on the hate and for good reason.
