dunning-kruger effect

Never knew what that phenomenon was called. It's what the Bennett Bros suffer from.

I liked the movie. I thought it was pretty good. It wasn't my favorite MCU film. But I thought it was pretty good.

I think it was planned and produced as nothing more than a secondary Marvel character movie. Somewhere below Thor in importance but above Dr. Strange or Ant-man. Definitely not a primary film like Avengers. Then a funny thing happened and a certain person got elected and threw some folks into a tizzy. The film latched onto the manufactured zeitgeist and somehow became a defining cultural statement. I thought it was average and I probably disliked it more because of the undeserved love it received.
Yep. Also agree with others on following two points:

1. Liked him better as secondary character in the other two movies.
2. Blade was way better.

Watch Blade and The Black Panther back-to-back. If you still think Blade is better, I'll laugh at you for wasting your life watching those two movies back-to-back. Those battle rhino scenes...

Funny story, one of my kids saw the Venom commercial and called him the Black Panther. I think I'm raising racists.

For better or worse, it is a simple fact that if you make movie that portrays successful black people in the dominate position that doesn't involve crime, lots of our fellow Americans will have a problem with that movie.

Blade is alright. The action is good but the villain kinda sucks. There's also this weird obese vampire that Blade tortures for information. I liked Blade 2 better, even though one fight goes full rubbery PS2 cutscene on you for no reason.

The Rhino scenes in BP were the worst part easily. It was a mid-tier Marvel movie. Liked it, but no real desire to ever watch it again.

I remember how lots of us hated Eddie Murphy and Bill Cosby in the 80's

Has it gotten that much worse?

1. You didnt watch lots of Bill Cosby movies in the 80s. Nice work naming two black celebs from the 80s, though.
2. Speaking of Eddie Murphy 80s movies, did you forget Murphy plays a criminal in 48hrs? Most of the comedy is in the relationship between the racist cop Nolte forcing ex con Murphy to help him or go to jail.

For an actual discussion.
I like Jordan as an actor in most movies/shows he has been in. I thought this was a pretty mediocre performance and Killmonger was probably the worst thing about the movie.
Perhaps, as others have suggested many times, if they split this into too movies and gave the character time to develop I'd feel differently

Okay.

Give me the evidence that "lots of our fellow Americans...have a problem" with black actors/actresses portraying successful people in dominate positions in film

Since introducing additional related concepts into an argument is too overwhelming.

That part made me think of Transformers when they went into some kind of dinosaurs/animals thing back in the late part of the original toy run. It was all just a boring cgi fest.

agree..finally saw it a few weeks ago. My first thought was "wow, Disney put the B team on the CGI for this one".. went downhill from there.

Didn't see all the SJW stuff other folks saw (sure it was there but certainly not in your face) but overall though the movie was terrible.

You should probably ask that of the person who made the claim. I was just responding to the lack of truth in your post.

Your post is no better than anything atmag posted. Just inflammatory BS designed to rile people up without making an actual argument. At least atmag was making a point, however moronic it may have been.

I loved Eddie Murphy in 48 hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, Raw, Delirious....etc.

Black Panther was a solid, entertaining movie. I wouldn't call it great but I enjoyed it. Wouldn't see it over and over again like I have done with Avengers, Captain America Winter Soldier

It's utterly amazing that a movie can do as well at the box office as Black Panther did, and a couple posters on this board are still trolling with nonsense about white people having a problem with it.

I still don't know what was supposed to be SJW about Black Panther (maybe because my childhood comic book dork self was somewhat familiar with the character), but it's getting tiresome to see racism charges thrown around anytime someone says they didn't particularly care for a movie.

I mean, box office revenue has nothing to do with a quality of movie (just it's marketing appeal). Avatar and Jurassic World are prime examples of that.

I for one didn't think Black Panther was good and had absolutely nothing to do with social politics or commentary. I thought it was overly wrought in sub-par CGI, overt in product placement, and a bit lacking in the dialogue department.

It had some good moments, particularly any scene with the 'queensguard.' But there were some other just obvious flaws and eye rolling moments (the electric-cape shield and rhino scenes were suuuuuper cringey).

I just saw it and enjoyed it,
I am not big on comic book movies generally for a variety of reasons, but this had a very different and unique feel. Well directed, great special effects, good story and solid acting.
People are free to like or dislike whatever, but don't get why some have a visceral negative reaction to it. Yes there are some political overtones, but other groups aren't portrayed badly(the one white guy is a good guy with the cia).
it's just a good comic book popcorn flick imo.

Because of the hype, I tried to watch it on a flight earlier this year and was bored to tears. Switched to something else partway through.

IMO had it been a green lantern movie (yes I know he's DC), it would have been viewed as another antman, but since it is incorrectly assumed to be the first black comic book hero movie (the abomination from Shaq ignored) its viewed much differently.

I think y'all smashing the film as a bad movie are silly. It's an average marvel movie. Doesn't make it bad, but I won't watch it again.

Decent popcorn flick. But I'm apparently not the film critic y'all have magically turned into.

I'm surprised so many people think it's bad. The worst movie in the MCU isn't bad, and Black Panther is far from the worse. I just have a hard time believing anyone actually thinks this is worse than Hulk or Thor 2.

And which of those films was nominated for best picture?

This has crash and Chicago level bad when it wins
