Astros Bingo Update 3-31-26There's nothing like three games scoring big numbers to give you delightfully skewed projections for the rest of the year. Let's enjoy the momentum
Yep, 97 win pace: Win 3 out of every 5 games and you win 97 games in a year. Math, it's not just for kids.
Halfway there: 3 wins in a row! The square for win streak is 6. Thirteen people picked it. We all want you to get it!
Our guys are swinging some big … sticks: New RBI paces after 5 games:
Diaz 97,
Walker 130,
Paredes 130,
Yordan 130.
What an early 4 for 4 does for a guy: In 1992, the Astros had a guy named
Benny Distefano. I have no idea why. He was terrible, but one Sunday he went g 4-for-4 against the Cardinals. His average jumped from .133 to .316 that day. Since he rarely played, his average stayed inflated. The next time we went to a home game, he was still "hitting" around .290 and my dad, whose favorite all-time player was
Rafael Ramirez, was demanding to know why Benny didn't play more, accusing Art Howe of not knowing what he was doing, and missing every other half inning to go outside and smoke.
Anyway, you might have heard that
Jose Altuve got 4 hits last night. Which means he is now on pace for: 65 HR, 194 runs scored, and 227 hits. He's also now hitting .412 with a 1.389 OPS.
Paces: Yordan is now 5 for 5 in games played.
Joey Baseball got his first day of rest. The Loperfanatics (trademarked) like myself aren't terribly sad about
Jake Meyers not doing that much because that's just more meat on the bone for Joey Lopes.
Win Paces: Rockies win their first, on pace for 41 wins. Dodgers lose their first.
Old Friends, Long Gone: George Springer continued his fast start to the year, hitting his 2nd homer, scoring his 2nd run, and driving in his 3rd.
JV got trashed in his first start back with the Tigers, giving up 5 earned runs and only striking out 1 in 3-2/3 innings for a unholy ERA of 12.27. He is now 9-18 since the end of the 2023 season. After the brutal 0-8 start with the Giants last year, he actually pitched really well in his last 10ish starts of the season. In the second half of the season he was 4-4 with a 2.99 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 75.1 innings. But homeboy is now 43. He's the best pitcher of his generation, but 300 W isn't happening. If only he had something to look forward to when he retires and is home every day …
Trivia time: JV's last start with the Tigers before yesterday was August 30, 2017 versus the Rockies. How long ago was that? Well for starters, the Rockies were 72-61. JV went 6 innings, allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and struck out 9. It was also the year that
Miguel Cabrera declared, "Hey I know I'm a lock for the HOF, but I'm going to magically just stop being good this year even though I'm 34. Oh, I'm going to keep collecting those $34m paychecks, but I'm definitely not going to be a good player anymore."
