I love David Simon, and thought the pilot was very well done, but it didn't grab me like I hoped it would. And this is coming from someone who can't stand Trump, but even I thought all the wink-wink, "This is really supposed to be about Trump" nods were way too on the nose. Just wasn't in the mood. That said, again, it's high quality across the board, as you'd expect from Simon, and I'll probably revisit it at some point.

HBO is finally having to adjust programming amidst the virus shutdown. Succession was scheduled to hit in the fall, but now HBO is moving The Undoing (Nicole Kidman) back to take its place, and moving I Know This Much Is True into The Undoing's May slot. In general, there's so much incredible TV on at the moment, but it's looking more and more like the second half of the year could be pretty sparse all around...

And Perry Mason looks great, I'm a sucker for noir-style anything. Love the music, would be cool if they would have a black and white viewing option.

This is going to get super confusing, and I wish Warner Media better-named their new streaming platform, but just FYI, those technically aren't HBO shows. HBO will be its own thing in the HBO Max streaming platform, and those shows will be in a different section. Think of them more as "Warner" shows developed separately from HBO.

This is worse than going from HBO Go to HBO Now, this is so confusing. The places to get streaming content is getting out of hand.

I image this means a trailer is imminent...

The ten-episode first season premieres in August (my guess is August 16th, once Perry Mason ends its run on August 9th).

I'm getting ads saying today is the last day to Pre-order HBO Max. I found that as an HBO Now subscriber it will automatically roll over into HBO Max for me

And what can I expect to watch this weekend? Looks like there's an Anna Kendrick show and the Zack Snyder cut of one of those DC movies?

The Snyder Cut of Justice League won't be out until 2021. HBO Max planned to have more original content ready at launch, but the pandemic obviously got in the way. That said, their existing back catalogue/library is pretty impressive...

Basically, it's all things HBO / TBS / TNT / Warner Bros.

In terms of TV, it'll be HBO's entire library (some of which will apparently be 4K for the first time) + notable series like Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, along with all shows ever produced by TBS and TNT, in addition to every other Warner Bros. series ever made.

In terms of film, it'll be all of the DC films (from the Reeves Superman films to the Keaton and Nolan Batman films to the DC movies of today), along with the Conjuring, Godzilla, Harry Potter, LEGO, Mad Max, The Matrix, Ocean's, and Rocky franchises + all other Warner Bros. films/franchises (which you can find here (1918-1999) and here (2000-present).

Personally, HBO Max has more value to me than Disney+ and maybe even Netflix. Once they start releasing HBO Max-branded original series on a regular basis (which, again, will be separate from the HBO brand of shows), I have a feeling this will be the streaming platform I use more than any other.

Ok that's encouraging. But what about Dream On and Tales from the Crypt?

Anyone else been watching I Know This Much Is True? It's from writer/director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines), is based on the novel of the same name, and the third of six episodes aired last night. Overall, I'm of two minds about it. On one hand, it's really, really, really good, with beautiful (if not haunting) cinematography, incredible acting, a sneaky good soundtrack, and some amazing Ruffalo-playing-both-twins work. But on the other hand... it's basically depression porn, as just about every tragic thing you can possibly imagine happens to the central family, to the point where it's kind of ridiculous and almost bludgeoning. And yet... I would still recommend it? If you're in the mood? At the very least, Ruffalo should have the Emmy in the bag. He's next level here. Curious to hear if anyone has given it a shot.

This continues to look incredible...
