I understand this is not the right thread (literally the opposite), but why the **** did they take the Harry Potter movies off of HBO? It's in my starting rotation of what we throw on in the background when not actually watching television.

Because USA and SYFY paid a **** ton to air them every 30 seconds

The Emmy-nominated Veep alum has been tapped to star in Avenue 5, the space comedy from Armando Iannucci.

The project, which currently has a pilot commitment and order for backup scripts, is set in the future, mostly in space. Laurie will take on the role of Ryan Clark, the charming and in-control American captain of the Avenue 5. Iannucci created the series and will executive produce.
Veep in space? Starring Hugh Laurie? In!

With True Detective finally confirmed for January, here's my wild guess at how the rest of HBO's 2019 slate might look, based on shooting schedules and where in production the rest of their series are. Given the sheer numbers of shows HBO has in store for next year, they're either going to have to switch from a two-hour to a three-hour Sunday night block at some point, or start adding shows to another night of the week, because there's no way their traditional model can fit everything. Also, just a reminder, save for True Detective, all of these dates are educated guesses...

January - March
- TRUE DETECTIVE - Season 3
- CRASHING - Season 3

March - May
- GAMES OF THRONES - Season 8 (6 Episodes) (Final Season)
- SILICON VALLEY - Season 6 (Final Season)
- VEEP - Season 7 (Final Season)

June - August
- BIG LITTLE LIES - Season 2
- BARRY - Season 2
- CHERNOBYL - Mini-Series

September - October
- WATCHMEN - Season 1
- THE DEUCE - Season 3 (Final Season)
- EUPHORIA - Season 1

October - December
- SUCCESSION - Season 2 (10 Episodes)
- MRS. FLETCHER - Season 1

... with BALLERS, INSECURE, and LOVECRAFT COUNTRY all getting added to the mix in the second half of the year as well if they get picked up for additional/full seasons. Not to mention whatever else HBO adds to the mix in the meantime. I've said it before and I'll say it again... HBO's 2019 is CRAZY good.

Speculation that Game of Thrones getting pushed to late May or early June.

Quote:

An interview with visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer on the Huffington Post talks about the show in reference to the Emmy Awards and its eligibility. And Bauer said something interesting: "In two years we'll be eligible for the Season 8 work, which we're just beginning now."

Now, this is mostly interesting to people, like the Huffington Post, who know about how Emmy eligibility works. For a work to be eligible for that upcoming year's Emmys, it has to air the majority of its episodes by May 31st. So, if Game of Thrones won't be eligible until 2020, that means it won't be airing most of its six episodes until after May 31st. So an April 2019 release date is completely off the table.

"We're going to be toiling away on Season 8 until May of 2019, so it's eight or nine months away," Bauer added. So that means late May or early June would be the likeliest point for a release, if they get it out the door as soon as it's done.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up. If that's the case, then I'd move GoT to the June-August slot, and put Big Little Lies in its place. BLL wrapped just last week, and they should be able to have all eight episodes edited and ready to go seven months from now.

Laurie recently wrapped production in Hulu's take on Catch-22, where he plays Major de Coverley in the six-part miniseries due in 2019.

wait! back up. How did no one comment on this monstrous announcement? Is this going to fly under the radar?

Unfortunately, it's only a pilot order. Hasn't been picked up/ordered to series yet. HBO will decide after the pilot is shot.

I cannot fathom how Ballers keeps getting picked up, but here we are...

Is it just purely The Rock? Is he really that much of a draw right now?

I feel so guilty for continuing to watch this show when I know there are endless quality alternatives across platforms. But I started watching it and there's little else on broadcast TV right now.

This show sucks, though. There are frustratingly little stakes, boring "plots" considering the plethora of options in a show about pro football players and adjacent professionals, and I really think the only decent character is Ricky, when they bother to give him anything to do.

I think The Rock is a big part of it, yeah, but I'm betting it's also because A) it checks off that Entourage demographic, and, similarly B) it's a scripted sports show to "compliment" their sports wing (Real Sports, Hard Knocks, LeBron, Bill Simmons, etc.). That's an audience I'm sure HBO covets, and I imagine Ballers is basically throwing them a bone in that sense.

But yes, the show itself is TERRIBLE, and yes, I feel just as guilty/stupid for still watching it. There just isn't much else on Sunday nights right now. Still, I'm on the verge of quitting every single week. Nothing happening this season makes any sense whatsoever. In the past, the plots/arcs were at least decent, if not executed terribly, but you could understand the motivations/logic. This season, though? It's like they just threw all common sense, effort, coherence, and any semblance of believability out the window.

Such a waste of Russell Brand, too.

Agreed, they've thrown everything out the window, including any character development up till this point. Ricky Jarrett actually bad me somewhat interested, but then this season with all the comeback stuff flying in the face of him seeming to want to become an actual adult. On that note, there are basically NO female characters in this season at all, and Ricky's babymama is a complete throw-away role. I could go on, but we're obviously on the same page

Still the best opening credits in cinema history. Deadpool is hilarious but this gives a complete story.

Titled The Righteous Gemstones, McBride's latest will tell "the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ." Goodman, who's also leading the Roseanne Barr-less The Conners over at ABC, plays Eli Gemstone, the leader of the titular family. McBride, meanwhile, will play his eldest son Jesse, whom the release describes as the "heir to the throne" who "fancies himself a maverick in the ministry game."

Yeah, it's been listed in the OP for a while now, but it was unclear as to when they were filming/when it'd release, so good to hear that they're gearing up. Thanks for the heads up.
