This has to be one of the least talked about shows in HBO's history. I never saw it advertised, I didn't see a single second of it, I don't know anyone who watched it, and I didn't see even one article written about it until now...

Shocker. Americans don't want to pay for liberal garbage TV programming when they get that for free on the networks.

Sounds like we were really missing out on Here and Now:
Quote:

a progressive multi-ethnic family a philosophy professor and his wife, their adopted children from Vietnam, Liberia and Colombia, and their sole biological child and a contemporary Muslim family, headed by a psychiatrist who is treating one of their children.

Episode 1
Quote:

The Bayer-Boatwrights are a multicultural family consisting of the patriarch Greg, (Tim Robbins) a professor having an affair with a prostitute who is having his 60th birthday, organized by his wife Audrey (Holly Hunter) and only biological child, Kristen (Sosie Bacon) an introverted high school student. They also have three adopted children: Ashley (Jerrika Hinton), adopted from Liberia, a fashion designer who is married with a biological daughter; Duc (Raymond Lee), adopted from Vietnam, a life coach; and Ramon (Daniel Zovatto), adopted from Colombia, who is in a relationship with free-spirited Henry (Andy Bean). The party goes awry when Ramon starts hallucinating and seeing the figures 11:11 constantly. He starts to see a therapist, and Audrey suspects it is schizophrenia.

Episode 2
Quote:

Ramon notices during his therapy session conducted by therapist Farid (Fred) Shrokani, (Peter Macdissi) both that woman in Ramon's dream is the therapist's mother and that 11:11 is his therapists birthday. The therapist also has a gender-fluid son who likes to cross dress and wear a hijab. Kristen has sex for the first time with a model whom Ashley brought to their father's birthday and contracts an STD. They visit a Planned Parenthood clinic and Kristen kicks a protester in the groin and she and Ashley are arrested. Duc gets his book published and has various amount of one night stands. Greg tells his students in a lecture to leave and enjoy life and one of his students ask if he is okay. Audrey decides to host a family meeting to discuss the state of Ramon's health without Ramon; Kristen tells him, and Ramon barges in and tells them it's his decision. Greg drives down and hits a fork in the road, sees 11 11 on a road sign then heads in the wrong direction.

Also, a reminder Fahrenheit 451 premieres this Saturday, though I'm seeing almost no buzz for it, which is strange considering the cast and title notoriety. Probably not a good sign.

I think I've seen a trailer for it the last couple of episodes for Sillicon Valley and Westworld I've watched through my Amazon subscription. Also seen some trailers on YouTube for it iirc.

LOL liberals really have no clue.

It's like TDS just sent them all over the edge. Up is down, down is up.

Can't decide how I feel about it yet. Looks good! However, Michael B Jordan does over-act a little imo.

Just watched it. It's alright, nothing to get excited about. These type of books are so good because of the inner monologue of the characters, and it's just hard to translate that to screen. I was still a little let down anyways because I love Jordan and Shannon.

"Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend it's not the story we think we know."

"According to Martin's books, the Age of Heroes began 10,000 years before the events in GoT. Some of the major names which could be characters in the new show include Bran the Builder (who founded House Stark and oversaw construction of The Wall and Winterfell) and Lann the Clever (who founded House Lannister). The era led into the Long Night a winter that lasted a generation and the greatest war against the white walkers. Then again, that's what we think we know, and the logline for the new show says this is "not the story we think we know."

I caught the premiere of Sharp Objects in Austin this past weekend. It's definitely going to fill the Big Little Lies void for viewers this summer and likely score Amy Adams some hardware.

With the finale of Westworld this coming Sunday, I could MAYBE see a Game of Thrones Season 8 teaser premiering just before, but the more likely scenario is a True Detective Season 3 teaser or a teaser for Big Little Lies Season 2.

HBO won't have a platform/episode this big for the rest of the year, but on the same token, it's probably way too early for GoT and maybe even too early for TD or BLL (all of which are 2019 shows, but all of which are nearly done filming).

Still, HBO will likely use the opportunity to at least preview the rest of the year, with first looks at The Deuce Season 2 and whatever other mini-series or movies they have slated. If I had to bet, we'll likely just a get a "2018 and beyond" trailer with brief glimpses of everything that's that's been shot so far (including TD and BLL), save for GoT.

What's the consensus on The Deuce? Worth watching? Feel like I never heard much about it, but its David Simon so I always planned on watching it.

It is really good. Pretty damn raw even for an HBO show. Many Wire alum in it. The attention to detail to bring to life an early 70s disgustingly trashy and raunchy Times Square is the true star of the show. Would highly recommend.

Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere on this board, but HBO's new overlord wants more original content.

"We need hours a day," Stankey said, according to the New York Times. "It's not hours a week, and it's not hours a month. We need hours a day. You are competing with devices that sit in people's hands that capture their attention every 15 minutes."

Quote:

Stankey's remarks were met with concern from Richard Plepler, HBO's chief executive, who reiterated that HBO has always favored quality over quantity. Giving the makers of shows like Game of Thrones, Westworld and Big Little Lies more time to create award-winning and prestigious television is more important to the network than quantity, Pleper said, though he acknowledged that the company's business model needed to change.

"I've said, 'More is not better, only better is better,' because that was the hand we had," Pleper said to Stankey. "I've switched that, now that you're here, to: 'More isn't better, only better is better but we need a lot more to be even better.'"

You'll want to take a shower after each episode, but it's worth it. Pure David Simon in every way. So good. Also, Franco is phenomal in it.

I watched about 30 minutes last night and turned it off. Literally the worst 30 minutes of television I have ever experienced. Maybe I was distracted, or impatient, but I'm going to need a lot of people to tell me it's great before I try again.

The Time Traveler's Wife is legitimately one of my all-time favorite books. The movie didn't come close to doing the book justice, a book that I always thought it would make a much better mini-series. Finally, HBO is doing just that. This is awesome news...

HBO finally made it official. They only had a pilot order up to this point, with scripts written for the rest of the season, but they must have liked what saw with the completed/shot pilot, and just officially ordered the show to series, which will debut in 2019 (I'm guessing at some point in the second half of the year)...
