Btw, second to last page of the lookbook. "Franchise Potential." If they follow through on that idea for season two, I'm all in. Only way I can think to make it fresh.
quote:My problem with the bikes were that they were modern bikes that they just kind of tried to make look like bikes from the 80's. Most people wouldn't know the difference, but it just bugged me because I'm old school BMX aficionado. It would be like if they would've tried to put 20" rims on the brother's Ford LTD or if one of the kids had a jar jar binks or Darth Maul toy.
Here are my thoughts for season 2 after a second viewing:
On the bikes - I know some were disappointed that they didnt have shiny BMX bikes but on my second watch I noticed that the kids have tape on the seats. I think these bikes are hand me downs and that other than Steve these aren't very wealthily families.

There is also a pretty sweet and fun theory out there that Nancy and Steve are in fact Jean-Ralphio Sapperstiens parents. JR was born in 1986 and is from Indiana. He also comes from money. On Parks and Rec his dad is a dentist. The theory is that Nancy and Steve have a baby in 1986 and are then killed by the monster and adopted by a wealthy friend of Steve's parents who are also wealthy and have a daughter of a very similar age.

Ell is Terry Ives daughter...
I said this after episode one. Clearly not the case but would've been a great twist.

Not to be an *sshole, but that is probably the dumbest, most nonsensical theory I've ever read on Texags.
Also, Dr. Saperstein is an OB/Gyn, not a dentist.

The Duffer bros have said that their main influences were Spielberg, King and John Carpenter. From the opening credits I saw King (font) and Carpenter (music, Escape from New York, for example). And Spielberg is all over everything else.
I was a little older than the boys in 1983 and acted the same as them in 1980-81, which I saw as the more accurate time setting given the cars, clothing, furniture, wallpaper. As for the parents, they were spot on. A kid in the late 70's and early 80's would be left to jump on his bike first thing in the morning, hopefully come home for 15 minutes to wolf down a lunch, and then come home around dusk for dinner, without any supervision. You called home if you wanted to spend the night at your buddy's. You were free to ride all over town to fish, play baseball, go to 7-11 for video games, play D&D or Atari at someone's house, build a fort, whatever. This show nailed that freedom perfectly and made me sad that our kids don't have that.

2. I read on Reddit yesterday that in the book, the kids escape the sewers by all having sex with the girl. Wtf? There is no way they can do this in a movie, right?

Yeah, it was a pretty WTF moment in the book. Needless to say, I would not expect to see it onscreen.

Speaking of It - two things.
1. They cast Mike from Stranger Things. Good for him.
