Here are my thoughts for season 2 after a second viewing:

When Joyce and Hop are in the Upside Down Hop comes across a yellow egg like thing thats been hatched. He bends down and touches it before moving on. When Ell is looking for Will and Barb she finds a dead Barb and says "gone." A slug slides out of Barbs mouth just like the slug that comes out of Wills mouth. My guess is that the Monster is using the bodies to reproduce, just like Alien. because will is no longer in the Upside Down it may effect his body different.

When the boys run into Wills hospital room to tell him everything that happened when he was gone Will has a long coughing bout. The look on his face shows he knows something isn't right.

Hop makes a deal with Dr Brenner and then Dr Brenner is killed by the Monster. Or so we think. Everyone who could have known about the deal is killed so why would Hop still have a connection to the government? I think Dr Brenner is still very much alive. It would appear that the Monster doesnt kill humans to eat, but for reproduction.

On the bikes - I know some were disappointed that they didnt have shiny BMX bikes but on my second watch I noticed that the kids have tape on the seats. I think these bikes are hand me downs and that other than Steve these aren't very wealthily families.

There is also a pretty sweet and fun theory out there that Nancy and Steve are in fact Jean-Ralphio Sapperstiens parents. JR was born in 1986 and is from Indiana. He also comes from money. On Parks and Rec his dad is a dentist. The theory is that Nancy and Steve have a baby in 1986 and are then killed by the monster and adopted by a wealthy friend of Steve's parents who are also wealthy and have a daughter of a very similar age.

I also read that Jim Hopper's name came from the man that the group is searching for in Predator. And the police uniforms in Hawkins were made to exact replicas of those from Amity in Jaws down to the patches.

there really is no doubt that Dr. Brenner is alive....

the creators confirmed it...I can't find the article right now but they basically said we showed deaths that happened. if we did not show someone specifically dying it was deliberate.

as for all the deaths, it appeared that the monster could not kill in the real world. It could only kill/eat in the upside down. If it could kill in the real world, why would will and barb be alive in the upside down and able to escape (at least for a small period of time in barbs case). Also why would it have to drag the deer into the upside down to eat it. That being said, Brenner and all the marines are still alive along with El. My belief is the monsters just an apparition or energy similar to El when she's spying.

Btw, second to last page of the lookbook. "Franchise Potential." If they follow through on that idea for season two, I'm all in. Only way I can think to make it fresh.

Sounds and awful lot like the plot to It, NTTIWWT.

Wife and I binge watched it last weekend. We never do that but we loved this show.

Lots of similar thoughts to what has already been posted by others.

The nosebleeds on El are very much Firestarter.

Super 8 and Stand By Me throughout.

I thought El was going to watch tv longer and pick up more info a la E.T., but we got the feeling.

I thought the bikes were a little too new for that time period. Somewhere people may have had pegs, but nobody I knew had any.

At the end of Forbidden Planet, the monster that attacks is the Id from the doctor's mind, which had grown more powerful due to his experimentation with the Krell technology.

El said early on that she was the monster. It was an understated line, but maybe the monster is her Id. Maybe that's why she talked to it and said goodbye to Mike at the end.

Her Id is a side effect of the things she had been through in the research facility.

Once again, Netflix makes me stay up way past when I needed to go to sleep.

Just finished the last episode a few minutes ago. Great show. Great plot device(s).

A question/theory about Hopper and his probable agreement with the government

Instead of leaving food for Elle because he's trying to help her, could he be trying to get her to trust him so that he or the government could capture her? I could see where he agreed to do this in exchange for half the town not being murdered.

My problem with the bikes were that they were modern bikes that they just kind of tried to make look like bikes from the 80's. Most people wouldn't know the difference, but it just bugged me because I'm old school BMX aficionado. It would be like if they would've tried to put 20" rims on the brother's Ford LTD or if one of the kids had a jar jar binks or Darth Maul toy.
Yeah, they didn't need top of the line bikes from back then, but I wish they would've at least put them on some old Huffys or something. Ebay is booming with old school bikes and bike parts. I wish the props department would've looked there.

The movie Super 8 had 80's era correct bikes in it. They should've borrowed those. Anyway, not a big deal. Still loved the show.

Not to be an *sshole, but that is probably the dumbest, most nonsensical theory I've ever read on Texags.

Also, Dr. Saperstein is an OB/Gyn, not a dentist.

Resisted the urge to binge watch this and spread it out over the past few weeks. Really enjoyed it.

So one movie that I haven't seen mentioned yet is Night of the Creeps (1986). Kind of a zombie horror invasion of the body snatchers movie where slugs infect their host's mouth and reanimate the dead. I wonder if that will be something that we see more of in Season 2.

For some reason I really identified with Hopper, hopefully he remains a good but flawed character.

Its was just a fun thing I read and obviously not true. I can't believe that got his profession wrong.

The Duffer bros have said that their main influences were Spielberg, King and John Carpenter. From the opening credits I saw King (font) and Carpenter (music, Escape from New York, for example). And Spielberg is all over everything else.

I was a little older than the boys in 1983 and acted the same as them in 1980-81, which I saw as the more accurate time setting given the cars, clothing, furniture, wallpaper. As for the parents, they were spot on. A kid in the late 70's and early 80's would be left to jump on his bike first thing in the morning, hopefully come home for 15 minutes to wolf down a lunch, and then come home around dusk for dinner, without any supervision. You called home if you wanted to spend the night at your buddy's. You were free to ride all over town to fish, play baseball, go to 7-11 for video games, play D&D or Atari at someone's house, build a fort, whatever. This show nailed that freedom perfectly and made me sad that our kids don't have that.

Finished this evening. Loved it. Thought it was great.

One reference not mentioned in the above video -- it shows a few Nightmare on Elm Street comparisons but the one that stood out the most from me was a scene of Stranger Things' Nancy in her school classroom thinking about her missing/dead classmate and "zoning out" was almost pulled exactly from NOES' Nancy daydreaming in her school classroom after her friend has been killed.

Summed it up perfectly.

Which I think segways perfectly into the upcoming (and hopefully not awful) remake of 'It'. Part of what 'It' showed was that much of what we remember as a picture-esque time in America when things were much simpler and better really had a lot of dark things swept under the rug and just flat out ignored by "grown-ups" (which is a topic touched upon much more in the novel that part of what allowed 'It' to grow was the despicable things done to others that people turned a blind eye to).

Speaking of It - two things.

1. They cast Mike from Stranger Things. Good for him.

2. I read on Reddit yesterday that in the book, the kids escape the sewers by all having sex with the girl. Wtf? There is no way they can do this in a movie, right?

Yeah, it was a pretty WTF moment in the book. Needless to say, I would not expect to see it onscreen.

They could do it in the movie and just imply things, but I'd guess they are avoiding it all-together... Likely won't even mess with "getting out of the sewers" and just finish it with the confrontation with It.

The kids essentially running a train on their friend was supposed to represent them shedding their last bit of innocence and becoming adults (allowing them not to be trapped in the sewers). It wasn't *completely* out of left field, but... yeah... if you read King's works, especially his older stuff, you'll find a lot of really creepy sexual stuff always shows up. Drugs are bad.
