So these soldiers could walk into any jewelry store and take whatever they want but this dude in a cage has cuff links so sweet that the guard has to have them? That solider doesn't even own french cuff shirts. Silly scene.

Maybe next week will bring death to the main players, especially the kids. I can hope.

Really? I think he is the only likable character atm.

Assertive and not a torturer.

I think the show is excellent so far. The tension is a slow burn. I am interested to see how the junkie is going to help the guy in the suit escape.

Best episode of the series by far.

Looks like all hell is about to break loose. Military turning on civilians, command structure rapidly breaking down and 2k Walkers about come out of the arena. It'll be interesting to see where they take the show once it all hits the fan. How do they keep it from being just a west coast version of TWD? I wonder if they will feature more government/command scenes of how they are fighting the outbreak?

The part with the two kids in the rich folks' house - a waste of air/production time.

I thought the step sibs were actually going to get it on in the house they vandalized.

I disagree. I think the writers are setting that scene up as one we look back on later as the last moment of modern, materialistic, societal normalcy for these kids. What had been important at one time will no longer have value at all. The life of luxury will be gone, and that will be their last memory of it.

Agreed. Finally getting good. Except for the teenagers. I hope they get devoured and finally find out what real misery is.

One thing that annoyed me: What's up with zombie shows making the military look like jackasses? I thought 28 Days Later was great up until they did that. This show didn't take it that far, but still. I think the VAST majority of the military would be damn professional in such a situation.

Yea, I thought they went a bit overboard.

I had a hard time believing the military company would be so easily overwhelmed when they went into the building when Mananwawanaea was in the hummer

Clearing each room and floor against unarmed slow zombies should be easy for them.

Especially since they knew what was up and wouldn't have been surprised about it.

I took as they staged that to kill their CO. Maybe they aren't really down with Cobalt and killing a bunch of citizens.

Salazar is going to open the arena doors and create a distraction for his family to escape. The soldier he has will tell him where the "hospital" is so he can free his wife.

Alicia was looking good.

I hope they don't kill Adams, the soldier, because I like Shawn Hatosy. Outside Providence is awesome.

That was what I took away from that scene when he said "Operation get my ass back to San Diego."

OMG. I had not looked at it that way. And he DID have the guy who tried to walk off with him. I think you are correct.

Agree that the implication was they killed the CO (and anyone else) while they get the hell out of dodge.

What I'm not sure about is where Cobalt stands with the CO dead. The vehicles driving past the kids at the end made it seem like all of the military was getting the F out, so I'm not sure if they are just getting the F out or actually getting ready to execute Cobalt.

I was wondering about whether it was a set up to get rid of the Lieutenant, and figure it probably was. But, didn't a lot of other soldiers die too? It seems like there were 5 or 6 that entered the building, and only 2 that came out, or did I miss something?

Also, it looked like the soldiers leaving the neighborhood had bicycles in the back of the truck (that I assume they'd liberated from a home). Sign that they know its all about to fall apart and, once the trucks run out of gas, there won't be anymore - even for the military?

If they were saying it on the radio enough for Salazar to know it was important, then Cobalt was already underway.

Still, if they are spending the effort and energy to help people at the hospital I do wonder why there was no effort involved to remove the civilians from the area. I guess the implication is that there is no where else to go? But "humanely terminate" the civilian population sounds a lot like giving up on the human race entirely.

I'll bet the setup for this down the line in either TWD or FTWD is that some of the military did survive and carry on and is consolidated somewhere.

I'm guessing a couple of nukes or heavy bombing runs are planned for 0900 like happened to Atlanta in TWD. The military is pulling out at night so they don't spook the civilians by their sudden disappearance. Cobalt is an operation much larger that the squad guarding the neighborhood we have seen. The lieutenant mentioned there are several other safe zones. His death will have no effect on the execution of Cobalt.

As for the lieutenant acting like an *******, that is 100% a real possibility of an Armed Forces member acting in that way. Military personnel have been venerated to unrealistic levels since 9/11. The military is simply a cross section of society, good and bad.

Keep in mind that he's a junior officer who is probably from a National Guard unit and not the full-time, active duty Army. He's in over his head with poor equipment, little training, no sleep, demotivated troops that are probably constantly deserting, and the secret of Cobalt weighing on his mind. He could also just be a complete dick. I had an XO in the military who got everything done by being a complete jackass to people. It was his personality and nothing was going to change that.

yeah, if I had to bet, I would imagine it would be an evac followed by a bombing. That said, it's possible it would be executed by local troops and that while it would still be going on at other centers, this one could be a clusterF due to the sudden leadership loss and desertion right as it's about to be executed.

Im not saying they are going to stop Cobalt, just that his soldiers don't want to participate in it.

I think they were banking on the fact that in the post-ZA society, that flat screen TVs and cufflinks will be the most liquid currency.

Hard to imagine any electrical appliance being valuable in a future where electrical power is not certain. Give me beans and bullets.

I know it's a real possibility, but why does nearly EVERY show seem to present the military this way? The vast majority of officers, even those in guard are upstanding individuals with a good head on their shoulders.

It would be one thing to maintain discipline in Iraq with s&*t falling apart around you and knowing your family is safe at home 11,000 miles away. It is completely believable that military men would go awol to protect their families, especially if they were an hour or two drive away. As for jackasses in the military, why is that hard to believe? I think society as a whole is about 10% jackass.... but I may be being generous!

pilgrim82
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Actually, more conventional battle situations like Iraq/Afghanistan are what military units are trained for and discipline tends to hold up better in these scenarios. It would be an unconventional situation, like a zombie apocalypse, where soldiers have to police their native population, where you would expect to see breakdowns in soldier morale and discipline.

Yeah, and I had such high hopes because Kim Dickens has portrayed better characters in her other shows (Deadwood, SOA).
