I could see Lyle Lovett's LA County (also about murder) making an appearance on the soundtrack at some point.

there is no way Colin Farrel would be on duty after what he did to the middle class family dad.
He didn't identify himself that we saw.

Velcoro: Hey I need a listing for the Conroys.
Dispatch: Hey, here's your listing for the Conroy residence at 123 Anystreet Place, Detective Volcoro.
Velcoro: Thanks.
(10 mins later)
911: 911, what's your emergency.
Ms. Conroy: This is Jane Conroy at 123 Anystreet Place. My husband Joe Conroy was just beat up by someone claiming to be a detective.

I doubt the Conroy's live in Vinci, but if they do, then I think "corrupt city government" is your answer.
Otherwise it's

By the way, we all agree that Farrell killed the man that raped his wife and fathered his child right? He was never caught is what he told his lawyer(?) at the beginning, but we know he knew the identity from Vaughn.

From what I remember, the lawyer asks if his wife was pregnant at the time of the rape. Farrell answers that he thinks she was. So that would make the kid his, no?
I'm not sure whether they found the rapist and/or Farrell killed him or not. That part was intentionally ambiguous for the moment I think.
And isn't his wife still alive? The lawyer asks why he wants full custody and he says she just left for two months one time and it was just him and the boy. So is redhead's stepdad married to Farrell's wife, or do we think she is dead?
Lastly, just to revisit the BJ thing one last time, when the motorcycle cop walks out of his supervisor's office the dbag on the cell phone says "Please tell me it's true!" Does that not indicate he took the BJ, or is that just the rumor floating around the office? I mean, he didn't look like he was enjoying the one from his gf. I thought by the look on his face he was ashamed he cheated.
(I will definitely have to watch the first episode again before next week just to make sure I have everything straight!)

Not trying to be sarcastic or mean, but I tend to agree with all the previous analysis and think you really do need to watch it again.
quote:I suppose the #2 could be the rapist. But I doubt that the rape and all that was orchestrated to get Farrell into his debt. That's just too complicated to pull off. I would be willing to believe that the #2 guy is the rapist and Vince Vaughn found out that it was a cop's wife he raped and then devised a plot to give Farrell the name of some random tweaker he knew in order to a.) throw the cop off the scent of his guy and b.) use it as an opportunity to have a cop be in his debt.
Now, the theory that someone else threw out about Vaughn's #2 being the real rapist and the rape being a ploy to lure Farrell into the fold is a reasonable sounding one, and I'll be looking to see if we get anymore clues pointing to the idea that that is the case.

I can also see a scenario that Vaughn with his connections got Farrell the job as a detective in that city's police force.

j/kI was interrupted midway through the episode so I am using that as my excuse for the fuzziness. And it's a damn hard show to follow in the first place!
quote:I had to watch a few episodes of season 1 several times just to keep up - and I've always thought of myself as above average when It comes to following movies and TV shows. I'm usually the guy people come to to explain stuff they missed.
There are some shows I can multitask on and some I can't. True Detective may be the most demanding of shows, where you really have to pay attention to every thing that happens very closely. Obvious, as we've already dissected most of the main conversations of the show.

There are still things from season 1 I never figured out and just chalk it up to Pizzolatto throwing out red herrings.

Exactly! Like what did the guy on the lawnmower have to do with anything?

Guys - do yourself a favor and look up the webcam sister, Leven Rambin. She's from H-Town. I'm hoping that she is this season's Daddario.

Oh, and maybe Abuela should have made those house payments instead of buying her chiquitos an Xbox and a big screen TV...
