I agree with the above posts about marvel developing these characters over years. That's why suicide squad didn't do much for me. I didn't care about any of them because I had to learn all of their backstories in a montage.
Marvel, on the other hand, made an entire movie about a guy who can control ants. Ants!

I finally got around to watching suicide squad and I think Slipknot just epitomized the problem with the DC Movies. He literally got introduced, was told not to run off or he'd die, and then he ran off and they killed him

I mean wtf was the point?
Cash grab.

I think it was supposed to demonstrate the kill switch, which they obviously were not going to use otherwise, and also be funny, which it wasn't.

Yeah, he was the only guy without a backstory in the montage. He was just the red shirt of the movie.

Yup, it was just horribly done. I literally said to my wife "I guess they're killing this guy off since they haven't told us a thing about him."

Three minutes later...boom.

Exactly, I think we all understood the point...it was just so terribly done. At least Margot Robbie is hot, that was about all that movie had going for it

Freaking DC is worried about losing their Batman and their Perry White is admitting that Marvel is kicking DC's ass. Meanwhile, Marvel is putting out goofy videos of Thor and his roommate. 10 years ago, who would think this would be where we are.

The two Thor movies are probably my least favorite Marvel movies to date, but I have to say, everything I've heard/seen about Thor: Ragnarok so far seems pretty awesome.

Honestly, as far as anticipation goes, I don't know that I've ever been as excited as I have for the next run of Marvel movies... Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. That just looks to be an awesome, super-fun, five-movie slate over the next 15 months.

I like Thor more than most, but I fully understand his movies are probably on the lesser end for most people when it comes to the MCU. I think Chris Hemsworth is criminally underrated. He's really funny, and I think Thor is hilarious when they play up the cheese of how ridiculous he is especially in relation to earthlings.

And I'm right there with you regarding Ragnarok. Frankly everything sounds awesome about it, including the director, who I think will really play up those comic strengths of Hemsworth/Thor. What We Do In The Shadows and Hunt For The Wilder People are both fantastic.

And of course more Loki is always a great thing.

One of my favorite goofy scenes from the entire MCU. The great thing about both Thor movies was how they didn't take themselves too seriously.

Thor: The Dark World is the only one I actively disliked. The first Thor was actually pretty fun at times, and the more I think about it, I'd probably put it above Ant-Man and maybe a couple others (not that I disliked Ant-Man). I definitely want to give it another shot before Ragnarok hits, as I haven't seen it since the theater. But I'm right there with you on Hemsworth. I think he's great, and his quips in the Avengers movies are usually some of my favorites. I love him as a character, I think I it's just that I really dislike the world of Asgard for some reason. Or, rather, I could not care less about it.

A good friend of mine who works for Bruckheimer has been on set in New Mexico the past couple of months shooting Horse Soldiers with Hemsworth, and he says he's an awesome guy. It's a military movie and apparently Hemsworth is the guy on set always trying to motivate everyone and working his ass off to make it as authentic as possible. The town they're shooting close to only has one restaurant that's open past 10 PM - Chili's - and Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and some of the other cast and crew apparently go there multiple nights a week after filming to drink. My buddy said it was hilarious the first time they showed up because it's basically THOR, drinking at a Chili's, which none of the locals were ever expecting, obviously, but it's extra funny because it literally feels like it's right out of the movie: Thor, in a small New Mexico town at the edge of the desert, rolling up to drink among the locals/mortals. I just thought that was so hilarious.

Completely agree. I've always liked the Thor movies more than most and I think it comes down to Hemsworth. He has a charisma to him. And you're right, the winning formula starts with using that charisma to play up the rowdy, bawdy nature of Thor. Although I really liked the darker Thor "Godkiller" (or whatever it was called) comic run from a few years ago, I think for the movie universe he needs to be a lighthearted piece of the ensemble. Like the scene where the various heroes tried to lift his hammer in Age of Ultron.

My favorite part of this same sequence was Thor's hammer changing directions as he teleported around, trying to reach him across all the vastness of space. It was a little thing, but I thought it was great. More than anything, it showed that someone thought it through, which I always appreciate. Marvel's good about that.

He was pretty impressive on SNL, from what I saw.

I just hope that they don't make him sound like a funny oaf in Thor 3. That's how the Daryl clips kind of seem. Surely they won't go that route though, especially if he's not on earth much at all.

I get the distinct impression that Thor is pretending to be oafish and knows damn well that his Asgardian coins are worthless. He's just on vacation living among mortals having a good time. He can wear baggies, drink for days, and harass the wenches without a care in the world. My guess is that he leaves a fat stack of cash when he moves out to save the world.

My only problem with these things being online is when I'll check my Doctor Strange BluRay special features and go "oh... yeah I've seen all of these already."

But that's ok. Spread the hype.

Notably absent was any mention of Spider Man. I wonder if they're still working out the kinks of sharing that character with Sony.

probably has to do with sony technically owning the character. I would guess that there's licensing issues with any promotional content that includes spiderman. so why include him on the DVD extras for Dr Strange?

I had noticed that too. At the same time, though, Spider-Man: Homecoming is probably the one upcoming film that has the least to do with Infinity War, so it doesn't really fit with the narrative of that "Phase 3 is an amazing culmination!" video. So I could see either.
