I think we may also need to consider whether they're talking about the origin of the original Captain Marvel, which is more GLish, versus the Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel history.
quote:Of course, but I'm just saying that the orginal Captain Marvel did have a much more GL-like origin than did this Captain Marvel.
They are spefically talking about Carol Danvers getting her powers.

Question... I was confused after watching the SuperGirl show on CBS and then seeing the announement of Captain Marvel.... How did Captain Marvel and Super Girl both end up with so similar names Carol Danvers and Kara Danvers?
quote:Last names are still the same though. Any relation or just coincidence?quote:

The Earth 1 version of Supergirl's alias was Linda Lee Danvers. Her kryptonian name is Kara Zor-El. She first appeared in 1959..
I guess they got Kara Danvers by jumbling up the two names, but that's unique to the televison show, I think.
Carol Susan Jane Danvers first appearance was in 1968, and became Ms. Marvel in 1977, Binary in 1982, and Captain Marvel in 2012.

quote:Of all things to steal... stealing the last name of a similar female superhero is... well... comical
Marvel and DC used to (still do?) steal things from each other a lot?
quote:Yeah, stealing was a little tongue-in-cheek, but with writers hopping back and forth between the two companies for decades, there are a lot of repeats and similarities just because the writer was comfortable or because it worked.
In some cases it wasn't stealing, so much as the same writer would end up working at both companies, and he'd just repeat his work. Not sure if this is the case here, but that happened a lot since comic writers were basically freelancers.

If that happens, that would be awesome. Maybe the MCU decided to stop treating them as redheaded stepchildren.
