I think we may also need to consider whether they're talking about the origin of the original Captain Marvel, which is more GLish, versus the Carol Danvers Ms. Marvel history.

Question... I was confused after watching the SuperGirl show on CBS and then seeing the announement of Captain Marvel.... How did Captain Marvel and Super Girl both end up with so similar names Carol Danvers and Kara Danvers?

The Earth 1 version of Supergirl's alias was Linda Lee Danvers. Her kryptonian name is Kara Zor-El. She first appeared in 1959..
I guess they got Kara Danvers by jumbling up the two names, but that's unique to the televison show, I think.
Carol Susan Jane Danvers first appearance was in 1968, and became Ms. Marvel in 1977, Binary in 1982, and Captain Marvel in 2012.

It's often on purpose, though that's long enough ago that it's probably not. Take a look at the costumes for Deadpool and Deathstroke, and then consider that their names are Wade Wilson and Slade Wilson.
In some cases it wasn't stealing, so much as the same writer would end up working at both companies, and he'd just repeat his work. Not sure if this is the case here, but that happened a lot since comic writers were basically freelancers.

And I have no problem with it, at all. MJ's race is way down the list of things that matter about her character.
Marvel sold out for diversity? Next thing you know we'll have an Asian Hulk, a black Captain America, a teenahed black female Iron Man...

While Gwen Stacey is his first real love, we just saw her story to completion in the Garfield movies. I think going with MJ is the correct move. Her race isn't really that important.
Like that's one thing that really makes me mad...they can change the comics all they want, but MJ is a ginger....white with red hair... End of story....not some black chick.

We really haven't gotten a good MJ yet, she's supposed to be a total bombshell and that sure wasn't Kirsten Dunst or Shailene Woodley.

Same here. Though, just FYI, I don't think that's an actual behind the scenes pic, or taken during the shoot. She apparently has a more of dorky, bohemian-model look in the movie itself.
Isn't she somewhat famous for a show on Disney? Guess the mouse is still taking care of her.
