Today is the 5th anniversary of the release of The Force Awakens. (And the beginning of the new Disney era.)
Man...remember how exciting that time was? I know it's only five years, but it feels like forever ago. It's weird to feel nostalgia towards a time in your adult life, but I do.
I took the train into Manhattan and got in line at the Lincoln Square IMAX, the only true IMAX screen in the city. I was there about two hours early (and seats were assigned), but there was already a bunch of people there. We just stood around and talked about Star Wars, and eventually a news crew showed up and started interviewing people. I was actually interviewed and I have no idea what the hell I said, but luckily that footage of me has never popped up that I've seen.
There's nothing quite like the lights going down before a new Star Wars movie. And I'll never forget the feeling on that particular night, since it had been 10 years since the last SW movie at that point. And it was probably just a fraction of the excitement that the older fans felt in 1999.
Walked around the city after the movie and checked out the Rockefeller tree and the GIGANTIC Star Wars billboard in Times Square. Fun night.
