For those of us unfamiliar, can you add anything that wouldn't be considered spoilery? Happy to hear there's some semblance of good news for this show....

btw i dont remember him or much of anything from mando s3 other than he took a bath, moff gideon died, mando got a house, dark saber died...so i have no idea who this dude was in that show

In the Zahn trilogy from the early 90s, Pelleaon is a captain on the Chimera, which is Thrawn's flag ship just like in the shows. He is our "window into Thrawn's genius", with Thrawn using him as a student, showing him multiple times how studying the art of a species allows him to know their psychologial / tactical weak points. He compares Thrawn favorably to Vader / Sheev for not flying into a rage when things don't go his way.

Pelleaon was at the Battle of Endor in the EU and eventually becomes a Grand Admiral himself much later. When the Yuzhn Vong (creepy aliens who use bio-weapons and can't be felt in the Force) try to kill everyone decades later, he's very old, but still in command and crushes them at some huge battle with an Orbital Bombardment strategy, proceeding to dunk on their commanding officer by hailing their flagship and telling them something akin to, "You may win the occasional battle, but the Empire will always strike back."

Cheesy I know, but you had to be there.

I read those books in the early 2000s, and it's incredible how much I don't remember. I only remember Mira Jade, the crazy clone jedi, anti force lizards and the Vader worshippers that followed Leia every where

(Obviously, I remember Thrawn, but not all that much)

I watched the Mandalorian and Grogu on Disney Plus and it was ok. Story was pretty predictable but it was entertaining.

My only major complaint was the darkness in every action scene. Why do so many filmmakers insist on scenes being so dark more than half of the action is in shadow? You can barely see anything and with quick action movement I miss much of it because it's just too damn dark. Why go through the trouble of filming action shots and adding CGI if the audience can't see a good portion of it? So frustrating.

What about the Noghri, Russk? And Lu'uke Skywalker?

The anti-force lizards are in another book. Rukh is the Noghri who was Thrawn's bodyguard. He was in a few episodes of Rebels

Looks like Spider Man Brand New Day will break the Force Awakens #1 spot on the all time domestic box office.

Was hoping The Force Awakens would hold but guess it was inevitable at some point. Ticket prices are also $5 more per ticket in 2026 vs 2019.

I mean, yes, I didn't think I needed to say I remember Luke in the Zahn trilogy. His story with Mara was a pretty big deal. I also distinctly remember his inner monolog talking about how weird the clones felt in the force.

(Edit: oh the misspell was on purpose. Lol, nope I didn't remember that at all)

Although I will say I don't remember any of the story about Han, Chewie or Lando.

Were the Nogrhi or whatever not the Vader worshipers?

Charley, which book has the lizards? I thought it was the 3rd book in the trilogy

The Nogrhi were the aliens that Thrawn used as bodyguards and enforcers. I don't think they had anything to do with Vader. Thrawn used them because the Force didn't work on them. I just read the Zahn trilogy for first time not all that long ago and that's what I recall.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Rukh, that's right... yikes it's been almost 30 years.

Pretty sure the ysalamir were a big part of the Thrawn series. But damn like I said it's been 30 years!!

Vader had come to the Noghri and "saved them" after a ship crashed on their planet and burned their crops or something like that. They worshipped him like a God and entered his service. That's the reason they don't ever actually kidnap Leia when they have multiple chances to do so because they have acute sense of smell and identify both her and Luke as Vader's offspring. At some point, Vader gives control of them to Thrawn.

The Force works on the Noghri. Thrawn goes to the planet Myrkyr to retrieve the slug-like ysmalari that can create a Force-free "bubble" around themselves. He uses them for personal defense and for breeding his clones.

The Ssi-Ruu - basically just dinosaurs, couldn't sense the Force. They were in "The Truce at Bakura" which was one of the first EU books released.

There are also the Yuzhn Vong, who the Force didn't have an impact on. They were stars of about 10-15 books over a long stretch of time in a series that killed Chewie and Han and Leia's youngest child - Anakin Solo - and sent Jacen Solo headed towards the Dark Side, basically the template for Kylo Ren.

The Vong books were so big back in the day, they even had Mark Hamill do a voice over commercial as Luke!

Finally watched Mandalorian and Grogu last night. It wasn't great, but it was entertaining. Have no need to see it again. Was there not a separate thread for it? Google and Texags search didn't pull anything up.

I felt the same. The movie did nothing to advance the character arc of Grogu or the Mandalorian it's just another adventure story. The movie could have been stretched to a full season of the show if it was still on air.

I thought the story was very predictable and borrowed a whole bunch of scenes from earlier SW movies.

I conflated them with the ysalamis.

I was pretty accurate, then. I thought the ysalamari were lizards, not slugs. Probably b/c the name sounds like salamander, to me

Yeah, it was fun but more or less just a higher budget long ep of the show.

I think we might've kept discussion in thread on that one, though kinda surprising that it didn't get its own.

I didn't make a Mando thread just because it would have been saddle bagged with negative comments instead of people who went and saw it.

Watched the Mandolorian movie this weekend with my wife and daughter. If I had paid for the theater I would have been a bit bent, but streaming it seemed like watching 3 or 4 episodes in a row, which entertained me enough.

This is the way! The 77 print and Disney kicking the new trilogy out. I heard luke from return of Jedi and Leah from empire are walking around galaxy's edge now. Hopefully they remake galaxy's edge around the original trilogy. I could give a rats ass about star fighter
