Family and I did Hollywood Studios today on our Disney vacation which meant a visit to Galaxy's Edge Orlando - we were at Galaxy's Edge Anaheim last June almost by accident for about 2 hours one night and did Smuggler's Run but everything else was overwhelmingly crowded for my wife and two sleepy 7-year-olds. Today we got to the park about 30 minutes early to battle everyone else for a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance and my wife scored us into Boarding Part 47.
We had a fast pass for Smuggler's Run which obviously makes it a lot more fun. My superfan daughter and I got to pilot (my first time, her second) and I strategically positioned her so I got to throw the hyperdrive lever, which every single Star Wars fan, no matter how jaded you might be, needs to do once in their life. It's a much better view from the pilot's chair and probably the most fun I've had ever on a ride, you really get lost in it.
A short while later my superfan (age 8) confronted two First Order stormtroopers on the street, bragging that she had Yoda in her backpack (true), rejecting an offer to join the FO, and when told by one that he was watching her, responding back "I"m watching you! Both of you! You're both bad!"
Later on, I took my daughters through the marketplace where my non-Star Wars fan requested and was bought a Porg to sit on her shoulder. We then got to say hi to both Chewie and Rey in nice little organic encounters. We got to Rice of the Resistance around 3 p.m. and probably waited 25 minutes in the cue, which leads you through the Rebels' secret base carved into a mountain on the planet. The ride starts with the animatronic BB8 but the hologram of Rey is just breathtaking, my super fan stared and stared and whispers "How are they doing that?" And I honestly told her, "I have no idea." Poe and Finn chimed in, along with Lt. Bek (Mon Cal) and Nien Nunb and then we were out to the awesome transport to launch into space.
On the advice of a friend we stood in the very back while everyone else crowded the front, watching as we took off and could see some of the X-Wing escort behind us as well as the TIEs when they attack. The best part of the very back is you see the FO Start Destroyer as it jumps in from lightspeed and have the best view of getting pulled into its hangar.
Ordered inside, you get the first money shot - SD interior with 50 animatronic stormtroopers and a TIE fighter and giant screens to simulate the exterior space. The cast members clearly get the impact this has on SW fans and let you linger to shoots vids and pics and selfies before sending you off to jail.
The FO officers that lead you to your cell are great - the one a line over from us was "interrogating" the guests about where the secret Rebel base and I chimed in "I think it's on Dantooine." The woman officer said "Is that a joke? We already checked there. Here's a joke. The Resistance."
Another officer commented on a Baby Yoda shirt saying he'd like to eat the creature, and another grilled my daughters about the secret base - one said Tatooine and my superfan said Dagobah - both met by smart but knowledgable comebacks.
Once in jail, you get the Hux and Ren show that is so lifelike, then busted out by the Resistance and put in the trackless cars. Everything from then on out is just overwhelming in the best way. My wife had the time of her life, and she spotted animatronic Finn in stormtrooper gear covering our escape. The AT-ATs that we first saw so long ago are amazing up close, and the multiple levels is really really cool. Near the end, Kylo pulls both cars towards him with the Force and I really liked that part the best. About the best approximation of using the Force. When the car turns into an escape pod, the sensation of blasting away from the SD and getting back "home" blows away the flight simulator on Smuggler's Run. Really a fun fun time.A few pics
A few pics. When I get home I'll YouTube my daughter's confrontation with the stormtroopers, it's pretty funny.

There's not much left. Must have had some sort of self destruct.
