Random morning thought as I get my son ready for school:

Why were the computers only capable of targeting the Death Star exhaust port and not capable of auto releasing the payload?
They couldn't do either.

This. The computer missed at point blank range.
The Rebellion outsources their software development to the same companies that Boeing uses.

Family and I did Hollywood Studios today on our Disney vacation which meant a visit to Galaxy's Edge Orlando - we were at Galaxy's Edge Anaheim last June almost by accident for about 2 hours one night and did Smuggler's Run but everything else was overwhelmingly crowded for my wife and two sleepy 7-year-olds. Today we got to the park about 30 minutes early to battle everyone else for a boarding pass for Rise of the Resistance and my wife scored us into Boarding Part 47.

We had a fast pass for Smuggler's Run which obviously makes it a lot more fun. My superfan daughter and I got to pilot (my first time, her second) and I strategically positioned her so I got to throw the hyperdrive lever, which every single Star Wars fan, no matter how jaded you might be, needs to do once in their life. It's a much better view from the pilot's chair and probably the most fun I've had ever on a ride, you really get lost in it.

A short while later my superfan (age 8) confronted two First Order stormtroopers on the street, bragging that she had Yoda in her backpack (true), rejecting an offer to join the FO, and when told by one that he was watching her, responding back "I"m watching you! Both of you! You're both bad!"

Later on, I took my daughters through the marketplace where my non-Star Wars fan requested and was bought a Porg to sit on her shoulder. We then got to say hi to both Chewie and Rey in nice little organic encounters. We got to Rice of the Resistance around 3 p.m. and probably waited 25 minutes in the cue, which leads you through the Rebels' secret base carved into a mountain on the planet. The ride starts with the animatronic BB8 but the hologram of Rey is just breathtaking, my super fan stared and stared and whispers "How are they doing that?" And I honestly told her, "I have no idea." Poe and Finn chimed in, along with Lt. Bek (Mon Cal) and Nien Nunb and then we were out to the awesome transport to launch into space.

On the advice of a friend we stood in the very back while everyone else crowded the front, watching as we took off and could see some of the X-Wing escort behind us as well as the TIEs when they attack. The best part of the very back is you see the FO Start Destroyer as it jumps in from lightspeed and have the best view of getting pulled into its hangar.

Ordered inside, you get the first money shot - SD interior with 50 animatronic stormtroopers and a TIE fighter and giant screens to simulate the exterior space. The cast members clearly get the impact this has on SW fans and let you linger to shoots vids and pics and selfies before sending you off to jail.

The FO officers that lead you to your cell are great - the one a line over from us was "interrogating" the guests about where the secret Rebel base and I chimed in "I think it's on Dantooine." The woman officer said "Is that a joke? We already checked there. Here's a joke. The Resistance."

Another officer commented on a Baby Yoda shirt saying he'd like to eat the creature, and another grilled my daughters about the secret base - one said Tatooine and my superfan said Dagobah - both met by smart but knowledgable comebacks.

Once in jail, you get the Hux and Ren show that is so lifelike, then busted out by the Resistance and put in the trackless cars. Everything from then on out is just overwhelming in the best way. My wife had the time of her life, and she spotted animatronic Finn in stormtrooper gear covering our escape. The AT-ATs that we first saw so long ago are amazing up close, and the multiple levels is really really cool. Near the end, Kylo pulls both cars towards him with the Force and I really liked that part the best. About the best approximation of using the Force. When the car turns into an escape pod, the sensation of blasting away from the SD and getting back "home" blows away the flight simulator on Smuggler's Run. Really a fun fun time.A few pics

A few pics. When I get home I'll YouTube my daughter's confrontation with the stormtroopers, it's pretty funny.

We rode three ****ing times at Disneyland back in November and I wasn't able to swing this once

Actually, the first time I rode, the girl sitting there didn't even realize she needed to participate, so she didn't even pull it, and it just absolutely killed me inside

Awesome story. I'd like to see the pics. Is there any way you could upload them to an image hosting site and re-link so we can see?

I'll add to this, we went in January and Rise of the Resistance is just a unique experience. It's something that you can look on pictures, or go to YouTube and do a ride along video but none of that does the real life experience justice. It's the first time I truly felt part of a story when going to any theme park. Disney did a great job with all of the little details, for example the transport ship (and I agree being at the back was awesome), when it gets pulled into the star destroyer, you expect to go out the door on the other side of the ship, but you go out the exact same door you entered when you were "on planet".

Rarely are my expectations for something like this hit, but they did an amazing job and it felt pretty overwhelming to just feel like you're part of the Star Wars story.

I'll give one more piece of advice to anyone going that hasn't been on it yet, don't over think it and/or analyze the smaller parts of (like most of us do), just take it in and enjoy the moments.

Oh, my wife (who is also a big Star Wars fan) was also blown away when she first stepped on to the star destroyer, but she had the best comment as we were looking around, she elbowed me and looked completely serious and said "Even the floors are shined like they are in the movies".

I'm trying to figure out when Luke would actually care to do this? Before he made his green one, the city is under imperial control and it would be really stupid to risk going back there. After he made the green one why would care?

I believe it was BES on this site that had made me aware of how the line works for that ride. By the time we got into the queuing area where they separate everyone into the groups of 6, I was doing the math and was incredibly pleased with what I saw - my wife and I were going to be the first in the next group called. Then ... there was some realignment and the group right in front of us suddenly had 4, and my freaking wife volunteered us to fill out that group! And of course the Disney cast member put us into that group.

I chewed my wife out a bit about that. But the joke will be on her, as I will be taking us one more time the summer prior to my daughter's senior year in high school, and hopefully I'll be able to get that pilot's seat.

I went at Thanksgiving, so that was before they opened up Smuggler's Run to the Fast Pass system. There was but one very long line (it extended almost to the entrance to Galaxy's Edge), so I rode it only once.

My family of 4 was grouped with a couple teens, who of course got the pilot/copilot seats. It really sucks for most people, cuz I can't imagine many wanting to get back in line for another 2+ hours in the hope of getting lucky the next time.

These are dire, confusing times we now live in. Something viral has been unleashed. Our heads are on a swivel, trying to keep up with a never-ending barrage of nonsensical events. "Why didn't they PLAN for this," the people cried out. That's right...

The Rise of Skywalker is now available for purchase - early - on digital/streaming...

My superfan talking noise to two FO stormies at Galaxy's Edge on Tuesday. She brought her plush Yoda on the trip and I let her sneak it in the family supply backpack to Hollywood Studios so Yoda could ride Smuggler's Run and Rise of the Resistance with her. She tells them she has him in the backpack and not to capture him. Her non-Star Wars loving twin sister makes a 1 second cameo then gets bored. Also note the old guy at the end apparently copping a feel on the stormtrooper's empty holster.

Im' formulating and seeding a Best Star Wars Character Field of 64, inspired by the Best Sports Movie one. Hope to have it loaded this evening for the first round. As you all might expect, only characters from the Rise of Skywalker are getting the top seeds

Presenting The Road to Exegol - my 64-character bracket to pass the time we are all in quarantine, even though I've been working from home for 7 years and have a lot of stuff to do.

Just make up an email address, it does not really matter. Each round will last 24 hours or so. If you don't know who a character is, Google. If you think I messed up the seeding, that's your problem. If I forgot someone, I still don't care. Enjoy!
