Watched the first half or so of Last Jedi, and just flat couldn't get through it. Nothing I saw through the casino scene made me want to continue watching it.

You think that will matter? It's been 10+ years since Revenge of the Sith, and those discussions continue. TLJ sucked almost as much as those, and that discussion will continue also.
It amazes me that people actually feel this way.

I don't see how you can watch TLJ, whether you liked Johnson's choices regarding Luke or not, and not be excited about him having the reins of his own original trilogy.

I have zero excitement about Johnson getting a trilogy. I've read scores of the books, seen the first six probably a dozen times each, and was in the theater opening night for VII and opening weekend for VIII, but I currently have no intention of watching Johnson's trilogy in the theater. If word of mouth is great I might change my mind, but as of now I'm going to Redbox it.

I really wish someone else had gotten the trilogy because then I'd be looking forward to it. Of course, the way things have gone since Disney took over there's a 40% chance someone else WILL end up directing it.
we might get lucky and the Post GL Star Wars curse might continue, and we get another director turnover.

I highly doubt Johnson directs more than 1 of the trilogy anyway, but we'll see

ROTS is hands down better than TLJ.

It amazes me that people continue to slam ROTS in the same way that they slam TPM or AOTC. But hey, to each his own.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to figure out where TLJ lands in my ranking because I view it as two different movies. The Rey/Kylo/Luke stuff is great in my opinion, and the final act is great, but the Finn/Rose/Canto Bight stuff is so bad. So where is it on average? No clue.

Also, ROTS is better than TPM and AOTC, but it is nowhere near anything else in the saga, except for the bad part of TLJ

Revenge and Last Jedi are a coin flip, imo. Depends on the day.

Sorry, I don't know why I activated a red flag on here.

Just barely touched my screen on iPad and this happens then when I try and touch the flag, nothing.

What is redeeming about RotS, at all? The opening space battle. Order 66.

Anything else? It might have the worst dialog of any of the prequels, though that's a competitive category.

Been so long since I've actually watched the entirety of RotS, so I'll have to reserve judgment on that debate.

Maybe it was that Darth Vader didn't actually do anything to destroy the jedi. All he did was pick on some kids who couldn't fight back and then got his ass beat by Obi-Wan.

It still amazes me that Lucas managed to screw up Vader so badly.

The NT completely abused green screens. It's a crime what was done with what should've been awesome movies.

The prequels get worse every year especially now that low budget sci fi has more convincing CGI. TLJ does a lot of things better than ROTS, but ROTS does have a better story.

The worst part about Vader was it took almost nothing to turn him. A lot less believable than Ewoks taking out an army.

not even close

while both have good and bad....

the good of ROTJ far outweighs the good of ROTS
and the bad of ROTS far outweighs the bad of ROTJ

ROTS is easily the best of the prequels and some give it too much credit as a result. It was only good in comparison to the 2 before it.

It's possible, I suppose. I enjoyed the original trilogy, as well as the various Old Republic games. The stuff I saw with Rey, Luke, and Kylo was largely good (bar some attempts at humor that fell flat), but I felt my will to live being sucked away every time they focused on Poe, Finn, and the Resistance fleet.

TLJ will age well.

ROTS has not aged well.

It will always have the high ground though.

similar could be said of the Ewoks (annoying, cartoonish, ridiculous fighting scenes and the stupid deity crap for C3PO)..... but i can power through ROTJ anyway.

the good outweighs the bad.

i disagree....but I applaud you sir.... it's top 5 for me.

actually kinda shocks me but my kids (19-22) think so too....they were not raised on the OT though, born just before the PT although they saw the OT plenty with me. and although they prefer the OT to the PT they love this new generation more. They would probably rank RO, TFA and TLJ as 1,2,3 in some order.

I believe ROTJ is heavily helped by nostalgia, and the "bad parts" of ROTJ are unfortunately about half the movie. I hate Ewoks, and I hate how important they are to the climax of the movie.

Having said that, I still love it and the third act overall is still awesome.

But, ROTS to me has more constant highs and fewer lows than ROTJ. And an epic soundtrack.

I put ROTJ a notch below ROTS in my overall rankings.

But in both cases, the good far outweighs the bad. And I don't really fault anyone on how they rank these two movies. It's almost interchangeable.

Edit: Not sure why I clicked the sad face.

Random SW thought: one of my personal biggest issues with the series right now is the lack of serious enemies. In the OT you had the Emperor, Vadar, and numerous Generals in the Empire.

At the end of TLJ all that we saw left was an underpowered Ren (compared to Vadar) and an embarrassingly weak character in Hux. That's it. That's the entire dark side of the force (except for those filthy rich capitalists in casino world).

Wow, so much of what's been said the past 1.5 pages is why we can't have good discussions about Star Wars....

Is it because so many of you grew up on the prequels that you value ROTS so highly? Like someone pointed out, yes, ROTS is the best of the prequels, but that was a really freakin' low bar to get over. And now ROTJ is a bad movie?? Wow....

I enjoy the Jaba opening sequence and seeing a matured Luke and the third act as well.

Would you have enjoyed the parts with the Ewoks if they had been replaced with a different species?

They are truly lost. Imo the reason why people like ROTS so much is because of the references and bridging to the OT ala Vadar etc.
