There are a few really good elements about Heir to the Jedi and I think it's worth reading for those insights, but it's one of the weakest books in the new canon. Sucks, because I'm a big Luke fan.

My current rankings of the novels. I excluded novelizations. A lot of these are very close together and I basically judged, "which would I rather read again?" Those with an asterisk, I listened to the audio book, which often makes a big difference.

That's how they're classified by Lucasfilm. The difference is length, mainly, from what I can tell.

Shocked you have Dark Disiple so high.

For me it's Bloodline #1. Tarken, Thrawn, Ashoka, & Aftermath Trilogy (they all blend together for me) in the next tier.

On a whim I just downloaded Dark Disciple to listen to and test its place in the top spot. Been a while since I first read it.

What I remember most about it is the dark and adult themes, and how awesome Ventress is. I will say it's definitely not the best written of the books, which I think goes to Tarkin or Bloodline for the adult books, and Ahsoka or Lost Stars for the young adult books.

Yes, but there is some weird **** in the other materials that never finds its way to the general star wars fan.

I wonder if the time periods will be that far off, or how the force will be used (will there even be Jedi). I would love the old republic type stuff.

That could essentially mean, NOTHING familiar that we know about Star Wars. No force, no lightsabers, no Jedi/Sith.

I would've been a little more excited if it was in the same galaxy, but unrelated to the Skywalker saga, tbh. The galaxy is already so massive, I kind of don't see the need for a new one.

In agreement there. I don't quite understand the need to completely leave the galaxy. But surely certain elements will carry over. Like, there have to be lightsabers, at least.

I'm betting there's some kind of minor plot element set up in TLJ or Episode IX (likely the latter) that will either hint at or launch this new trilogy. Not in a blatantly way, but kind of crack the door open a bit. Like a certain minor-ish character has to leave the galaxy on some kind of mission, or there's at least talk of this other galaxy or something. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some kind of connective tissue there, however small.

Wow TLJ must be amazing. Hype levels are going off the charts.
