TFA had marathon tickets factored in to its Thursday night gross. ($59+ a pop.)

I don't believe so, but they do include a few marathons. I'm not sure that had THAT much impact on the final number.

My theater had applause at the end... kid turns 5 this week. It just seems young but he has seen ROTS.

I haven't seen Rogue One yet so don't spoil if darker but ROTS is a bit dark:
- had Anakin kill a bunch of kids\toddlers (implied)
- lots of Jedi's (including a preteen) get shot
- Anakin getting sliced and burned alive while proclaiming his hate.
- domestic abuse when Anakin chokes his pregnant wife and causes her to die from losing the will to live (lol).

I think a 5 year old can handle Rogue One. It's really not THAT violent or gory, it's just a lot of death. But what sci-fi/action movie doesn't have death?

There is plenty of death for sure, but there's a couple of instances where I think it walks a pretty fine line with the violence. Rogue One certainly isn't as gory (mostly because of how weapons work in Star Wars) as Saving Private Ryan's Omaha Beach scene and rightfully earned an R rating, but in a way The Dark Knight was almost less violent than Rogue One was at times which also had a PG-13 rating.

I'm not saying you're wrong because I agree with your point, but I think it's worth noting that this is more of a war movie than an action movie.

The question isn't about blood it's definitely more thematic. The person sitting next to me gasped at times and I heard her at the end tell her date she was not expecting that amount of death. Just be aware and know what your kid might find traumatizing

That was so good I wanted to cry at the end.

It's about as much of a Star Wars movie as you will ever find outside of the original trilogy.

So so good.

I thought it was fantastic and exactly what I hoped it would be. And I'm not the easy to impress fanboy.

Rogue One is a solid entry in the Star Wars universe. Not perfect but the last 20 minutes sizzles, especially Vader.

$140M+ opening weekend for a movie with brand new characters and only a small supporting role by Darth Vader. (Closest comparison is Fantastic Beasts, which opened to $74 million last month. That movie is up to almost $700M global, so extrapolating that to RO damn near guarantees $1B+.)

I'd say the spinoff experiment is off to a pretty damn good start. Star Wars is here to stay, folks. Expect a lot of new announcements in the next few months leading up to Celebration. Obi-Wan WILL happen.

Maybe the "Darth JarJar" movie will happen.


If that doesn't happen I am willing to settle for a Tarkin or thrawn movie...as the good guys.




The inability to do Stories like this is a big reason of why I was so disappointed in that the clone wars ended up being a war with clones instead of a war against clones.

Actually, this is something that would be interesting to do next. A movie from the point of view of a character that is from the Empire.

A Tarkin movie could be great. His backstory is awesome. He went from being a forgettable character in my book to a complete badass after reading Tarkin & Catalyst.

That was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I figured out what was missing from the beginning of Episode 7. It was the Music/Trumpet noise during the LucasArts Logo. It was loud and really led into the silence of 'A long time ago...'. I hated jumping straight into silence, I really think it took away from the suspense. I hope they change that moving forward.
