I'd love to talk to some Star Wars fans about canon/non-canon stuff on another thread, but not sure if there would be any push.

Start a thread, man. Free country!
I'm gonna star a Star Wars thread on canon/non-canon stories. Discussion worthy.

Go right ahead. This is a broad thread for any SW news and non-specific topics. It meanders quite a bit. SW threads for specific topics make sense.

I went ahead and made one that hones in on the Expanded Universe outside of the movies, but, obviously, can tie back into the movies as well. Wanted more in depth discussion on ideas, theories, sorrounding books, games, comics, and what have you within the EU either it be canon/non-canon (previously canon) stories.

I went ahead and added in some topics, but I only to get the ball rolling. Didn't want to hijack this thread, hope everyone enjoys!

I heard they were gonna release a new Rogue One trailer (besides the behind the scenes one) that includes Vader? Maybe?

I'd love to hear more about the upcoming games.

Still gotta catch up on all of today's panels. Here's the Ep VIII panel.

I love Mark and Carrie's interactions.

Little disappointed we didn't get a title though.

So, I have watched all of the panels. The best ones (imo) involved Filoni... Ahsoka and Rebels. The Rebels panel was great.

Warwick Davis did a nice job.

10 days till Celebration.

IMO, this is what we're most likely to get:

  • New trailer for Rogue One (Vader appearance for sure)
  • Description and full title of the Han solo movie, maybe some concept art, and an appearance by Alden Ehrenreich
  • Title for Episode VIII, appearance by Mark, Daisy, and John Boyega, and possibly a teaser poster. (Though it still seems early for that.)
  • Surprise announcement of an Obi-Wan trilogy with an appearance by Ewan McGregor

Well, I was half right on three of those. There technically is a new trailer, we just didn't see it.

We were never gonna get much on Ep VIII, figured maybe a title, but I can't be too disappointed when we're still 17 months out.

Similarly for Han Solo, which is even farther than that. Still, it was cool to see Alden come out and get his official Star Wars "baptism" as the new Han. The crowd seemed to really embrace him. And in his short appearance on stage, I have to admit I really started to see a bit of Han in him. He really does look the part. (Video here; Alden at 11 min mark.)

Overall, much less excitement compared to last year (which was to be expected), but still a good Star Wars weekend. Next year will be off the chain.

So nothing on this?

This is what I really would like to see. MacGregor (and Ian McDiarmid) was the best thing about the prequels - and I liked all of those movies - so I would love the chance to see MacGregor again as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Is anybody able to find the full Rogue One panel? For some reason, Star Wars did not post the full version. I caught it before the live stream was taken offline. For whatever reason, they never archived the full SW.com broadcast for day 1 but day 2 & 3 are both online. The chemistry for the whole panel felt weird. Cast did not seem to know what they could or could not talk about (You might notice Tudyk asks Edwards something when he walks out, and Kennedy seems to confirm the answer he is given), Christie was an awkward host, etc.

There was also a moment where Kennedy was asked why she picked Edwards for Rogue One. Her answer indicated that she thought his style would bring something to Star Wars that is different (camera on his shoulder as an example). It seemed like she was confirming that Rogue One is different, and that is what she wants. Was I reading too much into that moment? There is also a moment in the behind the scenes video where Edwards basically says if he doesn't take a risk, then what has he added to SW. I just felt like these were subtle messages that this is going to be completely different than anything we have ever seen. Maybe it's just me hearing what I wanted to hear though.

No question that R1 will be totally different in style and look. True to the language that is Star Wars, but free to do it in a different/better way.

The Archaeology panel talked about this when making props.

It's possible it's already in the pipeline, but they didn't want to overstuff this Celebration with too much since they already had Rogue One, Episode VIII, and Han Solo to talk about.

I do agree. I was rambling in my post, but I guess that I heard affirmation that we are getting what many of us want. So, that's a plus. Still ready for that hype train to get rolling... release the trailer.

On the trailer, we do have comic con (San Diego) this coming week. Perfect time for the Rogue One trailer to officially drop and pull attention toward Lucasfilm. Fits the Disney way of doing business.

The anthology films having a different tone and style is something that was said pretty much from the get go. It's been something that a lot of people have been worried about. Over at theforce.net forums, one of the things a lot of people have been posting in dissent over the film is that it will be an actual war film and they just want more of the same tone that we get in the trilogy films.

Like I said about TFA when it came out, the fans of the franchise are their own worst enemy. I think R1 will do well financially and probably well critically bringing us something that the trilogy films have only brushed upon. I fully expect it to bring us the topic of loss, and unabashedly be a war movie.

Regarding Edwards, one of the things Kennedy said she liked about his style was his approach to making the film and noted how he would actually walk around with a camera to see what it looked like to him personally though the lens.

There's definitely people out there who call themselves fans, yet seemingly hate about 80% of the Star Wars universe/films.

I don't understand why people who seemingly hate everything Lucasfilm has done since ESB continue to watch.

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but in Carrie Fisher's panel, she made an offhanded remark about

***possible Ep VIII spoiler ***

Han's funeral..

***End spoiler ***

Wonder if it was just a joke she threw out, or if it's something we'll actually see. We do know the movie picks up exactly where TFA left off, so it's certainly possible. Personally I do hope we see glimpses of it at least. Although do I wonder how much time went by before Rey left to find Luke.

This particular quote made me close the thread I was reading (and there is a lot of back and forth over this trailer issue):

quote:
Wrong we had the "Chewie we're home" trailer even before this time... so its not the same as TFA.... the marketing for TFA was great.... R1 as of today has just become terrible.... and to marry it up with all the news about troubles behind the scenes as well.... the buzz around R1 is looking dodgy...

They needed a kick ass trailer... that's what they should of done at that panel... the fact they didn't was a huge misjudge....

So, some people think Rogue One is going to be negatively impacted, because they didn't release a trailer in July at a convention only watched by nerds who will be buying a ticket for opening weekend no matter what? The whole thought process is pretty funny.

The community section is where all the socialists and communists (generally the statists) hang out and they ***** and moan about things from the Republican party to our system of government in general. Quite hilarious to watch Americans hate being American. They've got issues.

Generally, most of those people ***** and moan about how the franchise either isn't following the outline laid out by the old EU and that the new canon is different from how they would do it. It's not only predictable, but tiresome to watch day in and day out. I generally go there to get spoilers and stuff for Rebels since the younger posters are addicted to twitter and other social media.
