It was a teaser folks...not the actual trailer...or even the movie itself. It's not meant to explain everything.

We just got a monologue from Michael Douglas. All we know about the star is he was arrested, probably for loitering, and he meets this creeper who has been following him for some time!

That really teases the crap outta me. Im at full attention.

For comparison's sake, here are the original teasers of some of Marvel's other movies:

GOTG:
Iron man 1:
Age of ultron:
Thor Dark World:
Winter Soldier:

They all kind of introduce you to a main character, villain or conflict, then show a bunch of awesome-looking action. The folks who complain the Ant-Man trailer doesn't do any of this have a good point. The action depicted is lackluster and the characters aren't laid out in nearly as engaging a way.

I'm going to guess part of this is due to the late switcheroo at director, which must have caused some delays and time crunches. A victim of that might have been the teaser, as so much of the rest of the movie is still in catchup mode and isn't yet ready to be shown off. (Just a theory)

I don't think it's fair to compare this trailer to Winter Soldier, Thor 2, or Age of Ultron because those all had well established well known characters from their previous films. I think Guardians had a unique advertising campaign (and awesome music) but I would compare Ant-Man more to the first Thor trailer.

But I agree with you, I think Ant-Man's first teaser doesn't have the VFX ready (you can tell just from the few shots it actually has them.) I'm looking forward to a more complete trailer, but nothing about this trailer has turned me off from the film.

Thought it looks great. It's a teaser.

Bill on Debt Hill is just doing his normal thing. Shocked anybody even pays attention to him anymore.

Gotta say I'm in Camp Negative, despite really being a fan of both Rudd and Mike D. Looks like Rudd went hardcore to the gym like Pratt before him - his face is lean as hell compared to any other role I've seen him in.

The set-up reminds me more of Owlman from Watchmen than anything else. Just feel like it's going to have be mind-blowing in terms of originality and special effects to carve out a niche for itself in the bigger Marvel Universe.

I saw Ironman 1 & 2, Cap 1 & 2 and GOTG in the theater, and all the rest on cable / On Demand because of having kids in 2012, but I really don't have much interest in this so far.

Two things:

1) that trailer doesnt give me any sense of who Rudd's character is. I have no idea why I am watching this film other than a dude proposes that another dude wear a shrinking suit.

2) wtf does this have to do with Avengers/Thanos/InfinityGems? This movie has the feeling its just a filler to make fanboys happy. (Oh look 20 secs after the credits to tie it together...)
Yeah. Marvel is definitely resting on its laurels and just counting on people to buy into it based on their built up credibility.

But that's fair and appropriate. We already know this movie is going to have a mediocre plot with a charismatic main character. There will be witty dialogue, continuous comic relief, and lots of action - like every other Marvel movie. There won't be particularly deep character development, and they can get away with not revealing much about the main character at this point.

Someone needs to find Paul Rudd saying the word "director" in another role, and then splice it into the trailer so the last line Scott Lang says is, "Let me ask you one thing, is it too late to change the director?"

Is this a comedy or an actual action movie?

I was hoping for a spoof of all the super hero movies via a hero who has pretty awful powers. Based on that teaser, it looks like it will be a serious action movie with the same premise as Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Probably too early for any accurate predictions, but putting an actor known for comedy in a serious action movie as a hero with crappy powers seems destined to bomb.

Hopefully it is more of a comedy, but that teaser didn't seem like it with the prolonged fight scenes, ant-riding, gunshots, and monologue.

Have you watched any of the Marvel films? Do you realize this is the same universe (i.e. made in the same vein as the others)? The others all had comedic moments, some more than other, but none were comedies, so there should be absolutely no expectation that this one is a comedy.

Yeah it's a Marvel movie. You should know at this point exactly what you're getting.

They are all fun, not gritty, superhero movies, with lots of action and plenty of comic relief. I would think it safe to say since it's Paul Rudd and his last line is a tongue-in-cheek joke, it's going to have plenty of funny moments and will probably have some self-deprecating humor about how his power is pretty lame compared to the rest of the Avengers.

Well look at the difference between teasers of GOTG and Antman.

GOTG names each character and talks about their role, their abilities. Antman tries to go directly into the backstory of how he came to be (which seems like its some random dude wearing a special suit that shrinks him).

If the GOTG teaser was all about Starlord's mom and being raised by a blue dude who runs a black market operation, there would be genuinely less interest.

So i think the teaser for antman falls flat, the most exciting thing it shows is a superhero riding a 2mm flying ant across a room. Sorry if this doesnt do it for me like it does for you fanboys.

And yes, I loved GOTG, the trailers, the finger, the taglines. Yes I love the current marvel, I have always liked it way more than DC. I just not that excited about a tertiary character and/or a very weak teaser that doesnt get me to care about the character.

Currently in the negative camp. Part of me wonders if the studio is going to rely on Avengers 2 driving people to see Ant-Man (if he plays a larger role there). It's the only reason I can see them making a teaser trailer this dull. As stated above, it doesn't quite mesh with previous trailers that have been put out for other movies.

Not as awesome as some of the previous Marvel trailers, but until they really screw something up they're still on direct deposit from my bank account.

Pretty big difference between Guardians and Ant-man as far as powers go. Quill has a team of intergalactic badasses and is the son of an emperor. Ant-man just does his best Fantastic Voyage impersonation and talks to insects. Plus the Guardians teaser was exponentially better than this.

I have seen most of the Marvel movies and enjoyed them, but some of you are letting hope get in the way here because that teaser trailer looks turrible, just turrible.
