Peyton Reed is the new director.

Ironically enough, he directed "Yes Man".

Also Adam McKay (Anchorman), will help rewrite.

Only thing I can figure is that they are just going to do one Ant Man movie and then tie him into the Avengers (since he was a founding member and has been slighted so far in the franchise).

I'm not a comic book reader, but isn't one of the more interesting aspects of Ant-Man that his gains more powers over time and eventually becomes Giant-Man too?

IMO, that would be a great way to explore sequels - focus on AntMan and the origin in the first one, and grow his powers (literally) in the sequel. Would be a unique take, too, as the other Marvel heroes don't really show as much of a change in their abilities. Aside from the superheroes first getting their powers (Cap, Iron Man, Hulk), have they really evolved beyond just fine-tuning those abilities (better fighting skills, better suits, more control, respectively)?

There have been multiple people to use the alias "Ant-man". This film concerns the second Ant-man, Scott Lang. Lang only ever could shrink himself.

The first Ant-Man, Henry Pym, did do as you say and develop the ability to increase his size as well, and that power did have a somewhat continually expanding set of limits.

I'm glad they didn't go with Hank Pym as the main Ant-Man in this movie. Even though he is obviously in the movie, I think having Paul Rudd as Scott Lang will bring a little more diversity to the Avengers without having another "Science Bro" on the team.

I can understand that logic, but I feel like its a little unfortunate since Hank was the original Science Bro in the first place.

Still pissex about losing Wright. Think I'll go watch Scott Pilgrim now

Ant-Man footage sounded pretty cool from description (described as an argument between Rudd and Douglas as Douglas is trying to walk Rudd through how to use the Ant-Man suit).

Filming began today in San Francisco, with John Slattery (reprising his role from Iron Man 2), Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, T.I., and Wood Harris (Avon Barksdale from The Wire) all joining the cast...

In the end I want a good movie. I'm bummed that Edgar Wright got kicked around by Marvel, seemingly a victim of pre-Guardians of the Galaxy jitters, and I wish I could see his movie.

Never thought about that, but I think he's right. Had Ant-Man been after GoTG, I bet they would let Wright do his thing. James Gunn made the most "unique" Marvel film yet with his own style, and it worked out great. Kind of a disappointment to think about now, but hopefully Ant-Man still works. I'm definitely not as excited as I was.

^ That makes me believe that it wasn't as much a style issue than something more serious (budget, schedule, or plot that conflicted with Avengers 2 or 3).

Nonetheless, given the hindsight offered by GotG I wonder if Wright would have been kept as director.

That said, what is the prevailing thought of why Wright left/quit/was-fired?

Is it just that he wanted Rudd to be a conman turned hero, and that didn't work with Disney?

That element is actually remaining in the final version. Though, I think Wright's version was maybe a little more "extreme" in terms of Rudd being conman initially? That, and Wright's super-stylized way of filmmaking just didn't jive with what Marvel wants to do. Yes, Gunn's GotG looked pretty "out there," but it was still fairly traditional in terms of editing, cinematography, etc. Wright really pushes things in those regards, and I'm betting Marvel was starting to get uncomfortable with how much this movie might stand apart from the others, stylistically.

That said, I really do think Peyton Reed will do it justice. I've always enjoyed Down With Love, from 2003, and Reed is apparently a huge comic-book guy who's never had the opportunity to direct one of these movies.

Interesting that we'll be getting Papa Stark again. I guess we can expect some flashbacks to when pym was young and first inventing all this stuff.

Wright is definitely a huge step beyond GotG in visual style. If you watch every Marvel movie out so far, you'd have a hard time guessing who directed what based on cinematography and style. If you add a Wright film to that mix, it will significantly stand out from all the others.

Ohh man... Chris Pratt. Paul Rudd. Robert Downy Jr. Can't wait for Avengers 3. With that cast I'm surprised Judd Apatow hasn't been pegged to direct it yet.

TCTTS

Neither are confirmed, but the Guardians are basically a done deal for Avengers 3. Ant-Man, not so much. Probably depends on how the movie does first.

I understand Marvel doesn't have to follow the comics, but I would be surprised if Ant-Man wasn't in the Avengers, he's a pretty big part of them.
