A 2 page thread whose last post was made almost a year ago? Yeah, that seems like the obvious place for people to go...

That's the rub, if you haven't completed all 5 books, there isn't another place for you. If you go to the other thread, you will see almost all discussions about the totality of events in the 5 books. If you have only read book 1 or thru 3 or whatever, there is no place for you to post. No place to discuss the difference between what you read and what the show is telling the audience. No place to figure out if the show's direction might give hints as to the books future direction. Those people are SOL.

Why should there be? You can't expect everyone to be in the exact same place in the books as those people at all times. Keep your book reading to yourself if you are afraid to go on the other thread and read a spoiler. Just because someone has read part of the book series, you think that it gives that person the right to spoil everything up to the point of what they have read for everyone who hasn't read as far as them or those who haven't read any?

Your post makes no sense. If someone is only part of the way through the books, anything they discuss will be a spoiler for those further behind them, and any discussion by those further along than themselves, will be a spoiler for that person. The point of this thread is for people who watch the show and who are therefore all at the same point in the story and for people who don't want to read spoilers.

Im almost done with Book 2 and I love reading the discussion and ideas on this thread. Some of the answers I know and some I am just like the non-readers, but I don’t want anything spoiled whether its in the book or not.

Of all my friends I am one of 2 people who have read or are reading the books and I keep any book talk out of it unless they ask. In that case I will answer their questions the best I can, but that’s also not a public forum like this is.

We get it, you read the books years ago and you are cooler than those of us who discovered this show because of HBO. We don’t care. Let the show play out and don’t Redstone this thread. No one likes that guy.

Basically the argument here is this

reader: I want to be able to post spoilers!
non-reader: Please don't spoil anything here, there is already a thread for that
reader: but then they will spoil things for me, because i'm not done with the last book!

So, basically, you don't want things spoiled for you, but it's ok to spoil things for everyone else. Got it.

Did you just play the hipster card? I started reading GoT after Season 1 started. I have since finished all 5 books. I did the same with TWD.

I do my best to no spoil anything for anyone, but I do enjoy discussions of the show without full dives into book theories, so I post here and in the spoiler thread.

What makes it impossible for me, and others, is that the target keeps moving. The definition of spoiler keeps getting changed. It's no longer simply something from the books that spoils something that will happen int he show. It's now expanded to anything and everything from the books regardless if the person is dead, alive, or whatever because it might spoil something if she show deviates enough from the books to spoil it.

If I tell you Ned Stark poops gold in the books (no true, obviously), does that spoil the show for you? He's dead. He's out of the picture. Does knowing that he pooped gold at some point spoil anything? As outrageous as it sounds, it's those types of things that people are calling spoilers.

I agree that what E2whatever posted was a spoiler and wrong. That's obvious to anyone. However, knowing whether Xaro's vault was empty in the books or not shouldn't be seen as a spoiler. Neither should know that Xaro's character plot has been fairly different. That doesn't ruin anything for anyone (or shouldn't). And those kind of complaints are what starts these ridiculous discussions about spoilers be evil...

The definition of spoiler hasn't changed. Some people's own interpretation of "spoiler" might keep changing, though.

It should be pretty easy. Anything that wasn't shown on TV, but was referred to in the books (past or future), is a spoiler.

Also: Those non book readers that are asking for backstory are just as bad as those posting spoilers, since you're opening the door to the book readers to possibly spoil something.

This thread should be only for what's been shown on screen, and any uneducated guesses as to what the future might hold based on what HBO has shown. If you want backstory, there should be a thread like last year for that purpose (or you can create another thread).

SuperAg - Im with you. That quote wasnt directed at you, it was directed at the people who cant help but post spoilers for no reason but to show off that they have read all of the books.

Well, now that we've got all of that out of our systems.

What's everyone thoughts on where Dany is going next? She spent this entire season just sitting around Quarth, so she better have some decently interesting things happen next season or people will start to get bored with her.

Arya is another one. Three kids alone on the road. Where are they heading off to? Winterfell? With that place burned, where do they head to next. Will they try to do something with the Arya/Gendry semi-relationship?

Lastly, Tyrion is going to have some major changes next season. Ousted, put down, attempted murder. He's too badass of a character to take that lying down. I would hope they have some rousing scenes between him and Tywin. I imagine that, if done right, a Tyrion/Tywin discussion could have as much impact as those Arya/Tywin discussions earlier in the season did.
El Tigre
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think Tyrion's ***** will betray him. Either this will be his downfall, or he will lose all of his humanity and become a real force to be reckoned with. I also think that Tyrion needs Tywin because all of his power comes from being Tywin's son, so I think Tyrion will try to strengthen their bond even though he resents him. Once the ***** betrays him I think he may realize the lesson Tywin taught him was a good and valuable one and he may resent him less, though it appears he is already losing some of his resentment toward his father.

It seemed pretty certain that they were going to be able to get a ship after locking up Xaro and looting his place.

I have a feeling next season will open on Dany either on said ship nearing Westeros or having just landed somewhere far south. From there your guess is as good as mine. I feel like she's going to show up assuming people will know who she is (maybe because of her hair since no one will have ever actually seen her), but will find that there are far fewer people who consider the Targeryans the rightful rulers than her brother always said.
Kampfers

I think Dany is going to land in Dorne, if only for a few silly reasons.

1) Dorne is about as far as you can get from the wall, and lord knows those dragons would be helpful there
2) Dorne has hardly been mentioned in the TV show so far, so it would be a good way to bring them in
3) It would provide a diversion in the south that would stop Tywin from simply taking the combined Tyrell-Lannister armies to crush Robb.

Something that I thought about after watching the finale again.

Tywin specifically forbade Tyrion from bringing his lady friend to court. Tyrion did it anyway. I don't think it every specifically stated that Tywin would recognize her but I'll be that Tyrion wants her the heck out of the city as soon as possible. Obviously Cersei doesn't know who she is as she roughed up Roz.

Bingo. It's ridiculous how much ego some people get out of this.

BTW, I'm one of those stuck in Limbo right now, because I still have about 300 pages left of A Dance of Dragons to be caught up, and I've unfortunately been spoiled pretty hard on the other thread, but I like to come here and read others thoughts and impressions about the tv show and I don't get why some people just can't seem to help themselves in posting about how the book was different about this or that.

It seems to me that the majority of people on this thread don't appreciate it. I think for season three there needs to be three threads again, one for discussion about the tv show only, one for the guys who like to "shepherd" the tv viewers through everything, and one for those who have read all the books.

Regardless of motivation, I think all book readers who have made it at least through ASOS will realize that ANY discussion about the events or characters in ASOS should be verboten on this thread. The HBO producers have indicated that ASOS will be adapted to 2 seasons, so it truly will be impossible to comment on the show without spoiling something. With GOT and ACOK, it was possible to guess what each season would cover. No longer. Book readers, myself included, should agree to stop commenting from this point forward on this thread and leave the show-only fans to discover ASOS on their own. It's going to be a fun and crazy 2 seasons!

Great comparison, though the ones on this thread have nothing on the ones on the Walking Dead thread. There are multiple posters over there who fap vigorously at the thought of people knowing they've read the comics.

When Stannis is attacking King's Landing Cersei is grilling Shae intensely. She at the very least suspects something about a foreigner peasant that became a noble lady's hand maid in a short amount of time.

Had no idea that was coming and even all the way until I watched episode 10 I was thinking it was just a bad dream Ned was having while locked up.

Terrible. But so bold to kill off the face of the show in the first season. Obviously it ends up paying off.
