Feels like the Walking Dead threads all over again.

That's why the LOST threads were so awesome. There was no source material. What you got was what was on the show. If they show did a bad job of explaining something, then you speculated about what was meant. There was no "LOST Police" running around correcting people with "filler information" from the books because they feel the need to correct the places where the shows fails to explain things.

Seems to me that HBO created this show so that it could be enjoyed by people who haven't read the books as well as those familiar with the source material. There is no disclaimer before the show that tells the watcher to find a GOT Concordance or a book reader to watch the show with to fill in information for them. Consequently, if there is a gap, or a change, or a failure to fully explain, then it doesn't need to be understood within the confines of the show.

In other words, because there is no reason why someone who has never read books should be unable to enjoy or watch the show, then it should be possible for people to pretend that there is no source material for the purposes of discussing the show IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE SHOW WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVEN'T READ.

If someone wants info from the books, let them ask in a PM or in another thread.

I think Khal Drogo could have taken Jaime, but would his prowess be known across the pond so that Jamie would consider him one of the three?

As for the Knight of Flowers' ability as a "swordsman", Renly would know best.

Didn't Joffrey basically get bested in a duel by Arya? Indeed, Stannis would be shaking in his boots if he knew that Joffrey was planning on fighting him.

I liked that we finally got to hear a little bit of backstory on Stannis. I wonder (but don't want to know unless already revealed, which I don't think so) what caused Robert to give Renly the place that Stannis so loyally defended?

They haven't said.

And just out of curiosity, what sent us off on this tirade about book spoilers, filler info being bad, etc.? Was it me asking about who could best Jaime? I mentioned a name of a knight from Book 1 that hasn't been mentioned in any episode (last season or this) and simply wondered if he could be listed in the "3 men that could match me" category. The other names mentioned were from show observations: Hound kicking butt whenever he fights, The Mountain being....well...the Mountain, we know Ser Barristan is held in awe due to the conversation in Season 1 between he and Ned, the Knight of Flowers bested Jaime in a tourney and defeated the Mountain (all discussed or shown) so he can be in the conversation, etc.

I'm trying to figure out what sent people off on a rant about this thing and there's been nothing said (at least this week) that would be considered spoiler or book filler.

some of that filler included a naked Talisa. May I just say daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, I wouldn't care about a bridge for that either.

Color me disappointed with this scene. Pretty much every other naked chick (Danerys, Osha, Roz, Melisandre, etc) were given full frontals of their nude scene's. Somehow they got away with just doing butt and side-boob for Robb's chick, and SHE is probably the hottest of the bunch.

Damn shame.

P.S. I hear in the book that she is fully nood! SPOILERTH!

Retreat book readers!

...let these sandy vags go on not catching new characters names from season 2 until the 4th season. This thread is much more entertaining reading the discussions about "Danny and the exiled white dude" and "King Jeffrey."

If you think you can understand, with clarity, even though they condense a thousand-plus pages into ten 50min episodes, I applaud you. Good luck.

Getting back on track.

Cersis character is becoming very intriguing to me, last week talking with tyrion it seemed like she was giving up hope on Geoffrey and ready to disposition of him to save her hide and then this week she pulls that stunt to try and protect him

It amazes me that even with threads specifically devoted to non-book readers and book readers that the book readers just have this yearning to let people know things from the book.

Happened both with Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

Before the internet, grown-ups were actually embarrassed to admit they read fantasy novels and comic books - these nerds flaunt it.

With as much whining as there is in here you'd think my 3 year old had figured out how to use the Internet.

Geez

My main reason for coming here was 2 fold. First, last year I watched the first 6 episodes before picking up the books and plowing through all 5 plus the Dunk and Egg stories and really appreciated when folks could give some backstory before I had read the books to explain what had happened on a few things. Didn't want to be spoiled, I just had trouble keeping up. Second, my wife is a watcher that has not read the books and really appreciates me doing the same as she has often gotten characters and plotlines confused.

I have tried to keep my comments restricted to things listed on the "Non Spoiler" HBO website and to perhaps add some backstory on a few things that wouldn't spoil anything about what is going to happen. For instance someone asked why Robert and Stannis didn't get along, there are a few things that I could say that wouldn't spoil anything but simply add to what they didn't have enough screen time to cover but I'm happy to be quiet about it. They didn't get along as Robert and Stannis have both said in the show, if that is all you want to know then fine as it won't really affect anything.

I also think its kind of funny when you say the show is meant to be different from the book because the creators certainly don't agree. They have to make a lot of compromises, especially this season, in order to convert the story to the screen but they are trying hard to keep it on track. Dan and Dave are fanatics for GoT and won over Martin for the rights to make the show after many, many others had tried specifically because they "got it" and wanted to portray the story instead of do a major adaptation. The only reason the show doesn't have that material is budgetary and time limited, not because of some creative license of the creators. The next episode is actually written by Martin himself as was "The Pointy End" last year.

*****Filler information for terradactylexpress. (some may think it's spoiler):*******

Cersi murders Joffrey next season.

Wish I woudln't have done that? What is that saying about wishing in one hand and ****ing in the other?

Since we're spoiling things:

The entire world in which Game of Thrones is set in is in the imagination of an autistic child that is staring at a snow globe of a castle.

yeah, I know. Just making a point that we should all be considerate of others. Just because you think something is stupid doesn't mean we shouldn't at least try to warn people before posting filler information.

And that's not really a spoiler, btw. I just made that up.

I did that and spoiled the ending to Thelma & Louise for one of my girlfriends friends when they were watching it on video and had to leave before the movie was over.

So wrong, Doreah is clearly the prize for winning The Game.
