Even though I (sadly) knew about Ned Stark before starting the series, I imagine that being the moment that viewers realized what kind of series this was going to be.

My "shocker" moment came later, but man, Ned's death still bothers me every time I watch it. **** Joffrey.

Curious to know what this is. If that wasn't the shocker moment I'm terrified to find out what it actually is.

Can I tell one of them to buy AMZN or NFLX for me?

Just watched episode 3...I'm lost on one thing...how did the gay Baratheon brother gain power so quickly and have all these men so shortly after fleeing Kong's landing? I feel like I learned this already but can't for the life of me remember.

I'm sure someone will answer that (I can't remember), but just wanted to thank you for staying off the other thread. There is SO much stuff coming up that I'd hate for you to be spoiled on in this awesome show!

1. He was gay buddies with Loras tyrell and he agreed to marry Loras' sister Margery.
2. Back after Roberts rebellion Robert gave Stannis drafonstone, the home of House Targaryen and he gave Storms End (the home of house Baratheon) to Renly. So Renly had been lord over all of the Storm Lands who were all loyal to the Baratheons. Renly was also far more likeable than Stannis.

Combining those 2 factors, Renly got significant support from houses in the Reach and in the Stormlands.

^perfect answer. And to be clear, the Tyrells are one of (if not the) the wealthiest/most powerful families in Westeros.

Okay makes sense. Thanks Goose!

This season is so much about Tyrion so far. No complaints here. He's phenomenal.

The show probably didn't get into the part about Robert giving Stannis Dragon Stone and Renly the Storm Lands. That was a bigger deal in the books and Stannis despised his brothers due to this.

Crap. I shouldn't say that in here. Nevermind.

But Tyrion is GOAT tier in seasons 1-3. My favorite character easily.

So last night Joffrey was threatening and having Sansa whipped on from the Throne. Tyrion enters and puts a stop to it. Then you get this line.

"I'm not threatening the king. I'm educating my nephew. Bronn, next time Ser Meryl speaks, kill him. That was a threat. See the difference?"

That **** was awesome.

For those that have watched, there's this feeling that Tyrion's moral compass is that of a Stark...it's been that way all series. I think the prediction of him eventually helping them in a big way is a little too obvious. But I still get that feeling. He's an incredible character.

I am pulling for anyone who thinks that bumping 6yr old texags threads are the best way to understand season2 episode 6 to be spoiled hard core.

There are multiple excellent podcasts and recaps/reviews dedicated to each episode, and the chances of getting intentionally or accidentally spoiled are next to zero.

Can you recommend a podcast that recaps each episode?

youd be ok too reading through this thread rather than bump it. The conversation in these was really good. I know 32 pages seems like a lot but you really only need 18-20 to get to your point and you can quickly scan to get there.

Now that Disney+ is out I am 100% convinced GRRM conceived Melisandre after seeing Magica DeSpell in DuckTales. Magica was a witch that sent her shadow to do evil deeds.
