Holy crap...

wow.

I am speechless.

So dexter gets no vengence, at least not the kind he is looking for.

Also, I get the feeling that deb is going to start to question dexter. Now that she knows who he is.

Sadly, I see they have planned more angel/laguerta relationship strife. I cant stand that crap.

I have also always thought rita was annoying, but with her gone, Im not sure how they are going to proceed. I mean the obvious answer is that the writers will pull out some angle I have never considered and make it work, and I will totally believe it.

Anyone else catch the little back and forth between lithgow and Hall at the end? It was pretty good. I also get the feeling that lithgow was a fan before he was cast. So thats gotta be pretty cool for him to get a chance to paly such a major role

I really like that they left it with a plot cliffhanger, not one of those stupid "what's going to happen endings"...

I hate those, but this ending just leaves us totally at a loss as to what direction they will go from here, which exactly where dexter is in his life.

wow. What a show.

I'm actually a little sad now, I know it's just a show and it wouldn't exist if Dexter didn't have his Dark Passenger but a part of me was rooting for him to succeed in balancing his family and his demons.

I think next season we're going to see a darker and more tortured Dexter. I just can't see him cracking snide one-liners after what happened.

Interesting that the writers made the decision to kill her off late in the season, according to buddytv. I would have thought that they had the whole season all written out and ready to shoot from the getgo.

Oh sheeiiit! When he killed Trinity I was thinking "Cliffhanger my ass!"

Then when the baby started crying it all fell together and I audibly went 'Oh ****!', then more and more as my hunch proved correct.

Oh ****! What a season! I'm so glad Season 3 didn't turn me off this show.

*********Spoiler Warning********

Unbelievable. When Dexter walked into the bathroom and the baby was sitting in blood, I still thought....no way, she's still alive somewhere. Damn, that felt like a punch in the gut. Besides that, I loved the part when they opened the garage door at Trinity's and Dexter was standing there and Deb just stared at him with that WTF are you doing here? look. Wow though, what the hell is going to happen next season? 9 freakin' months. Boo!!!

Also, I know it never happened because it's just a fictional TV show, but what makes it even more shocking and depressing is thinking about what happened before she died...the struggle, the look on her face, the baby crying, etc. She was just such a wholesome and innocent character.

He said on some show last week that he had only caught a few episodes prior to being called about the role.

Agree.

I think next season is going to be the darkest yet. From Rita, to Deb knowing his blood lines, to single dad, to continued collateral damage, etc,...

Is next season the last, or is there one more after that? If it's the last, it's going to be interesting how they put a bow on it all- Dex stops killing, Dex gets killed, Dex gets caught, Dex teaches his son the code, ... lots of things could happen.

wow. just wow.

the wife and i just kind of sat in silence after that episode.

makes the entire pre-death conversation with trinity that much more chilling.

I dont think the kid will need the code.

I mean hes really young. younger than dexter was.

I doubt he even remembers it.

This, for me too. When you think about how long Harrison had to be sitting there, since Trinity had to have had killed her between Dexter seeing her off in the taxi while it was still full daylight and him coming home in the late evening after disposing of Trinity's remains. I would guess what, 8-10 hours?

And how does Dexter explain this? Not suicide, because there's the VM with Rita saying how much she is looking forward to the Keys getaway, as well as purchasing the tickets- not suicidal behavior. Not Trinity, unless Dexter has a good explanation of why Trinity would target his (Dexter's) family.

I agree. Dexter was 3-4 years old and saw his mom whacked to pieces with a chainsaw, and had to sit isolated with the carcass for days.

I doubt a one year old (probably less) remembers anything.

I hope they pick up next season right where this one left off. That was such a cliffhanger - what was he thinking? Where was he going? How does he explain Rita's death? Does he expose of her body and tell everyone she left him? Lots of moving parts in this show right now.
nai06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no way he covers up her murder. He has to let the cops handle this one. If nothing else, for the kids sake.

People had to have seen Arthur in the office when he came looking for dexter. They know what he looks like now. It could look like he just targeted someone from Miami Homicide.
SnakePliskin
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But didn't someone from 4 Walls see Dexter/Kyle Butler? What about Trinity's family? They have to know something is up with Dexter. They've witnessed it! How will Dex explain this - he was simply playing undercover detective?
Ag20??
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think Dexter even could cover up Rita's death. Too many questions would be asked and just saying 'she left me' wouldn't cut it.

Crazy ending, when he heard Rita's phone ringing I thought it was going to end with her and the baby missing, didn't think they would ever kill Rita.

They certainly left everyone wanting more. It will change how Dexter 'operates' for sure, he'll have to be more accountable for his time, can't just tell young kids to fend for themselves while he goes out.

I think a lot of suspicion is going to be put on Dexter for this. Despite the fact she was killed in the same fashion as Trinty's first female victim, it wouldn't line up in his pattern as far as everyone else was concerned because it was different property, timeline was off, she was not alone, and no ashes left at the scene. It would be hard to understand why Dexter would have been singled out. That along with Dexters noticable violent behavior recently, Head-butting Quinn and assaulting and officer, others may start to raise questions.

Though, if they did a search history on trinity's computer, they could find the Dexter Morgan address search which would definitely help point the finger towards trinity, but still why him, how'd he get the name, a lot of other questions would arise.

if the department has cameras, they'll be able to go back and see trinity having a conversation with dexter out in the open.

Someone posted this on another message board. Regarding how will Dex explain Rita's death:

"Easy: Christine killed Lundy because he was closing in on her father. Christine is brought in for questioning. It can be assumed that Christine told her father the police were onto her and thus onto him as well. It can also be assumed that she told her father the name of the officer in charge of the case, Debra Morgan.

Arthur decides to leave Miami and frames Stan to buy some time while he makes his escape, only he discovers that his daughter committed suicide. He goes looking for Debra Morgan for revenge. He doesn't find Debra, however while going through Debra's apartment, he finds her brother's address. As luck would have it, her brother is married and his young wife is at home.

Trinity/Arthur kills Debra Morgan's sister in law as payback for his daughter. Case closed."

Smething along those lines seems viable.

Great scenario but it doesn't address Trinity's family. They'll have to be worked into the story somehow.

If he lays low and they don't see him while in the station, he'll never have to explain it. Kyle Butler could be anyone. If they tell the police about "Kyle Butler" then it ties up that murder too.

Given the story about the drug-filled past that "Kyle Butler" had, it makes sense that he would have made himself scarce when the police showed up. It is within reason that they wouldn't have noticed him standing around outside the house as they were being escorted away since they were so freaked out.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Great. If that is the scenario they go with, Deb will consider herself responsible for Rita's death and go into another season of her crying and being depressed about how she destroys everyone around her even though Dexter is the one truly responsible for the death of Rita. NO MORE WHINY DEB!
MookieBlaylock
How long do you want to ignore this user?
or they could put Dexter on trial for killing his wife and trying to frame it on Quatro
would pretty much ruin the show and go against everything they have built

How long do you want to ignore this user?
what i dont get now...is what is the overall endgame for this show?

they cant just have dexter coming to terms with his dark passenger and living a normal life....

will they have him get caught?

what's the end game here?
nai06
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think deb finds out more about dexter

MookieBlaylock
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Deb will start banging Quinn- Dexter will end up killing Quinn- Dexter dies at the hands of his sister who ends up on death row,Matsuka will get busted for kiddie porn

and the series will transition to Anghel and Laguardia fighting crime in Miami- that would be a fing awesome series
Syd_X_Barrett
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The end game for just about every serial killer is dead or in prison. Dexter knows this & that's got to be how the show eventually ends. I doubt they will cop out with some fairy tale bullshat. If they do, it will ruin what was built.

I lost track of the Californication thread, but the season ending on that one was pretty depressing too. Both were great season finales.
