Not exactly. A pretrial hearing on the applicability of the Stand Your Ground law would have been an affirmative defense. Per FL law (according to the lawyers discussing this on the Politics Board), once elements of self-defense are introduced into evidence, the jury must consider self-defense, even if the defendant does not assert it, and the prosecution must prove beyond reasonable doubt that it was not self-defense.

Every witness has corroborated Zimmerman's version of the story. Martin's girlfriend admitted to leaving things out of various statements she made, lying, and not taking her interview seriously. The prosecution has done nothing to prove that it was anything but what Zimmerman has said it was.

The media was competely irresponsible in casing this from the start with incomplete information and speculation to be a racially motivated murder, and inflaming the public in the process. Now they will pretend they never did such a thing.

Justice is important, but it needs to be evenhanded and objective.

Why cant people just look at stuff for what it is. A kid was walking in his neiborhood after buying candy at the store, and ended up being shot dead. There is NO excuse, story, reason, explanation, scenario in which that kid should end up dead. I dont care if he is white or black big or small he simply did nothing wrong. Zimmerman was wrong to follow him, wrong to have a gun, and wrong for not listening to the police when they told him not to follow TM. Anybody who does not see it that way is simply looking/reaching for something that isnt there. What would you do if some dumbass was following you around your neiborhood at night for NO REASON, Zimmerman is lucky it wasnt an adult with a firearm or he might have gotten shot instead of getting his ***** ass beat.
