Made these just now. Not too shabby. Didn't get homemade corn tortillas, but still delightful. Definitely missed the New Mexico chili powder, without it the sauce tasted too much like chili rather than tex mex chile con carne.

That said, pretty dang yummy and a much-needed dinner idea.

So what exactly is this "deluxe american cheese"? What's the brand you use and where do you get it? I googled it and it's a bunch of sliced cheese for sandwiches/burgers.

I prefer to buy blocks of cheddar or a mix of colby jack and Monterey jack and shred my own. Put any extra in a sandwich bag and leave in the freezer to prevent clumping.

Deluxe American used to be sold in blocks like Velveeta. This thread is about eight years old now and I haven't seen it in HEB for quite some time. Now I usually get boars head American cheese from the deli counter and have them cut off a 1-2 pound chunk. fta, that looks fantastic!
