That isn't due to lack of recruiting, that was due to new roster limits. It used to be lower scholarship amounts but no limits on roster spots so the distance squad was a little bit of a farm program where you have a ton of athletes hoping to develop some elite, now they have to be more strategic on who they give spots to. If anything she did a great job improving the quality of female recruits.

Agree 100%. Did not mean to insinuate otherwise.

Apparently Harnden was promoted at Auburn and quickly axed all his co-workers except one. If true, wow!

I haven't heard of any changes to our assistants since Burrell was hired other than them advertising for a Director of Ops. They did have an open position since Julia Abell left the staff recently to follow her husband to another state.

Not sure they were axed. I would bet they are following Burrell.

I feel like if that were true, they'd already be here by now. Burrell was hired two weeks ago.

Harnden was hired by Auburn well after that and he is already filling his staff.

They could be here and working. We will see.

Henry's staff is still here and working. All of them (except the one I mentioned earlier).

I doubt Dollar Trev would approve a buyout for an assistant track coach.

So, why are they waiting to announce/post them on the track & field page?

Is it a new contract situation or how does that typically work?

None of them have contracts. They are renewed annually.

This is the magic question.

If any current staff are not retained, it's doing a disservice to them by not letting them know ASAP/giving them the maximum amount of time to land another job.

Now if he's keeping them all, it would be best to load the bios up so it can't be used against them in recruiting.

Just my two cents.

I did not realize that, but I still seems that the staff would always stay up there while we "patiently" waited for the athletes to be posted.....

No reason to take the staff down year-to-year unless there was a specific change while the head coach remained the same...also the roster fluctuates MUCH more year-to-year than the staff. You basically have to start the roster clean each year because of the amount of changes there.

Auburn also hired Penn State's mid distance and distance coaches which is an enormous hire for them.

they got both Ryan Foster and his wife Kara, both ran Penn State, surprised to see they pulled them away.

Fun fact, back in 2020 Coach Ryan Foster was at Tennessee and after an indoor meet in Lubbock he flew to Houston to drive down for an in home visit with Sam.

He knew Sam was also talking to A&M, so his first words were "Don't worry, we are the Good orange" That turned out to be Sam's only in person, in home visit as covid craziness shut every thing down shortly after.

Burrell will hire some new coaches. It is naive to think he will keep all of Henry's assistants

I don't necessarily disagree with you. But doesn't it seem odd that he is two weeks in and hasn't hired a single one? And the Director of Ops position that is open is not a coach.

Looks like we hired away the Director of Ops from Auburn who had been there all of six months (and who had been at USC for four years prior to that).

That seems like it would be a pretty good hire. USC won the men's indoor national championship in 2025.

Nate Collins
Title: Chief of Staff and General Manager

Nate Collins joined the Texas A&M track & field staff in July 2026 as the chief of staff and general manager. Collins arrived in Aggieland after one season on head coach Leroy Burrell's staff at Auburn.
Collins will oversee a wide range of responsibilities, including internal and external operations, helping navigate the NIL landscape and supporting the program's recruiting efforts. He will serve in a multifaceted role, supporting student-athletes, staff and the many stakeholders connected to the program.

He previously served as director of operations at Auburn during the 2026 season after spending the previous four years in the same role at USC. His primary responsibilities included coordinating the day-to-day operations of the program, team management, team travel and home meet administration. Prior to USC, Collins spent five years at Cincinnati as director of Olympic sport operations. He worked directly with coaching staffs, providing administrative and operational support while coordinating all aspects of team travel and serving as a liaison between the coaching staffs and the athletics department. Additionally, he managed travel authorizations and expense reports for recruiting and official visits. He also oversaw the budgets and accounting for multiple sports within the department.

Before joining college athletics, Collins enlisted in the United States Navy in 2008. He spent a year and a half stationed at U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before transferring to Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, where he served for three years. During his military service, he earned three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

A native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Collins earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Kentucky in 2014 and a master's degree in physical education from Eastern Kentucky in 2016.
