It's amazing how ridiculous some people are. Those two posts are unbelievably narrow minded.

I totally agree, Kashchei. I swear to pete's sake it's so simple. Hire Bob Gainey (72 yrs old) as President of Operations and pluck Modano (56 yrs old) from Minnesota as the new GM. Both proven winners with the Dallas Stars Organization.

Hard pass

Howdy Grapevine, I'm just spitballin'. I'm just tired of seeing this front office put together amazing teams on paper with a stellar regular season only to look like a junior varsity squad in the playoffs.

Is it heart? Is it coaching? Is it team chemistry? Bad culture top to bottom?

I honestly don't know...

Because he's been doing a great job lately of addressing our weaknesses, signing great contracts, and managing the cap. How many Cups have we wonder under him again?

Agreed. Wouldn't trust Mikey Mo anywhere near leadership role in the organization.

Gainey I don't have a strong opinion on but 72 years old trying to lead men in their 20's is always suspect.

LOL. JV squad in the playoffs? We've been to the WCF three out of four years.

Yeah, let's make Modano the GM. With his tons of hands on front office experience. Hell, let's get Brett Hull back in the mix too…maybe the Ambassador of Fun or whatever the hell he did the last time he was on the payroll.

You have every right to toss ideas out, just like we have every right to comment on how stupid they are.

And another thing…it wasn't some bold move to fire Yzerman. The dude stunk in Detroit. No playoff appearances, no sign of hope on the horizon, a totally alienated team captain. It was a disastrous tenure for a franchise legend.

And yet some are clamoring for Modano to be GM? Lmao.

That's totally fine, MattAg. I wouldn't mind bringing back Ludwig, Zubov, & Hatcher if that meant instilling the determination it takes to win Lord Stanley's Cup. Do you honestly think this years' Stars could have given Carolina a 7 game thriller series in the Finals? The standard has to be raised from every facet within the organization. There's just no gas left in the tank when we get to the WCF.

  • He's no Scotty Bowman. Maybe Gaglardi would be wise to pluck someone from Eric Tulsky's GM tree...again, just dumb takes from AgFrog.

I don't want Modano near this organization as anything other than a former player. There's some bad blood, and he wasn't exactly the leader here - hell, Gainey had to have a serious 1-on-1 with him about how he needed to step up if they wanted to win the cup. He played the '99 finals with a broken wrist and should get a lot of credit, but the D guys and Nieuwy were the leaders imho.

We've had several good coaches in recent history, so maybe that's not the issue? Honestly, I think we need 1 really good and physical D man (ideally to pair with Miro to get him back on his natural side) and perhaps an upgrade in net.

16-years on, I'd like to think Modano and everyone else has gotten over it. I don't really know what mark, if any, he's made on the Minnesota Wild so I don't know if he's deserving of a bigger role here

There's no bigger Bob Gainey fan than me, but he's a 72 year old dinosaur who really hasn't worked a job like this in 15 years. And I've seen no indication Modano is ready to be a good GM. This would be a good ol' days stroll. Now I do think it's time to consider life after Nill, but neither of those interest me at all.

Bro, Scotty Bowman is 92 and still wants to stay involved in the NHL. Don't tell me Gainey doesn't want some time away from his wife.

Interesting point on DLLs yesterday about how the Wing AAV is much lower than Centers.
Dallas should get Robertson for 12.5 or less pretty easily for 1 year imo.

Top NHL Winger AAVs (2026-2027 Season)

    1. Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota Wild, LW) - $17,000,000 AAV
    Contract: 8 years, $136,000,000
    Expires: End of 2033-34 season

    2. Mitch Marner (Vegas Golden Knights, RW) - $12,000,000 AAV
    Contract: 8 years, $96,000,000
    Expires: End of 2032-33 season

    3. Kyle Connor (Winnipeg Jets, LW) - $12,000,000 AAV
    Contract: 7 years, $84,000,000
    Expires: End of 2032-33 season

    4. Mikko Rantanen (Dallas Stars, RW) - $12,000,000 AAV
    Contract: 6 years, $72,000,000
    Expires: End of 2031-32 season

    5. Artemi Panarin (New York Rangers, LW) - $11,642,857 AAV
    Contract: 7 years, $81,500,000
    Expires: End of 2025-26 season

    6. David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins, RW) - $11,250,000 AAV
    Contract: 8 years, $90,000,000
    Expires: End of 2030-31 season

    7. Pavel Dorofeyev (New York Rangers, LW) - $11,000,000 AAV
    Contract: 7 years, $77,000,000
    Expires: End of 2032-33 season

    8. Alex Tuch (Washington Capitals, RW) - $10,500,000 AAV
    Contract: 8 years, $84,000,000
    Expires: End of 2033-34 season

    9. Jonathan Huberdeau (Calgary Flames, LW) - $10,500,000 AAV
    Contract: 8 years, $84,000,000
    Expires: End of 2030-31 season

yeah. they can extend him starting January 1. I'd think around $14M AAV for 7 years at that point.

Agree. Allows Seguin/Benn contracts to work themselves out/get off the books and give him term/amount closer to what he was looking for. Or unload him at TD next year for a moderate package of picks/players if everyone is too butt hurt to work it out

How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't think there's anyway they trade him now tbh. He still holds most of the power here in that wherever Dallas wanted to send him he would have to sign a long term contract in order for Dallas to get his full value. I think as FWappraiser said, he'll be signing a 7x14'ish type of deal January 1 of next year knowing that Seguin's money is coming off the books.

More or less, for better or worse, this is the team we're going to be rocking next year.
    Enrico Pallazzo

Yep, lots of flexibility heading toward next offseason. Money will be coming off the books, and they have this season (or at least part of it) to evaluate direction - resign or look to change things up

I would expect the heat is ON Harley now to have a 2024/25 type of year again, and if not he'll be out the door for whatever they can get for him. Because he has a NMC beginning in 2028, and they won't want that money on the books for the guy we saw last year.

I would think Faksa gets traded to make room. With Hyry coming on late, it makes the most sense. I'd like to see something like:

    Robertson-Hintz-Seguin
    Hryckowian-Johnston-Rantanen
    Steel-Duchene-Benn*
    Kiviranta-Hyry-Blackwell

with Back the 13th forward and hopefully Hemming making the jump and pushing Benn down to the 4th line at some point.

I wish these idiotic organ-EYE-zations would stop doing stuff like this. Never gonna get Robo extended at a number that won't cripple the franchise if this keeps up:

[EDIT to clarify: I'm not saying Celebrini doesn't deserve to get paid; if he keeps up this pace, clearly he does. Just not 18.8 IMO. My post is more a commentary on how the NHL keeps resetting the top of the salary charts like what the NFL does every year. The problem is the NHL isn't going to experience the same exponential revenue growth that takes the salary cap higher every season like the NFL does.]
