Celebrini is going to be the face of the league soon. He just turned 20 and is already one of the best players.

Robo's camp can bring that data point to the Stars and the Stars should laugh at them. Celebrini is 7 years younger than Robo and he had a better season than Robo did last year.

Certainly can't argue with that part. I edited my post to clarify what about it was frustrating to me. I agree top players should get paid like top players; my beef is with salary escalation league-wide outpacing revenue/salary cap growth.

A lot of this is spurred on by the biggest salary cap jump in league history, and the new CBA takes effect September 16, 2026. I have a feeling a lot of teams are going to regret some of the contracts that were doled out this summer.

It's going to be a race to the bottom.

If it becomes harder to watch and expensive, subscriptions and revenue decline. Once those go down, ability to sell ads goes down. Then they need more from subscriber, and so the cycle continues.

I think they're better off offering the subscription for free and open the floodgates to eyeballs, then live off ad revenue.

Or do it all through locals and have some sharing revenue with them.

I admittedly am not a HUGE stars fan but I watch the playoff games and used to watch a good amount of regular season when it was easy to consume on regular broadcast television, same for the Rangers.

It's too much effort with the app and I know they're losing viewers and revenue because of it.

Yeah, seems like V+ was great the first season but last year the quality took a big step backwards.

We are building a house out near Tyler and I worry about ability to watch the games out there. Anyone know if V+ works out there or do you have to use a VPN or something? I guess we won't be able to get channel 27 or 4 out there for the games that are broadcast locally.

Pretty sure V+ (for Stars games) works for all of Texas and surrounding/connecting states. Not as region-centric as MLB.

I thought they originally said it was free in a certain area, then available nationwide for pay. I could be wrong. Not sure how big the certain area was.

Also noticed last year that most of the ads were either them advertising themselves or blank unsold ad space. Not a good sign. Thought it was interesting that the Rangers did it for one year then quickly got back onto a television network. I honestly don't think any sport could really profit making themselves purely pay to view. It too quickly eliminates all the casual fans. I like sports and like having them on, but don't think I would do that for any of them.

They need to get back on TV.

It's still a regional sports network, so you can only watch through V+ in the four states mentioned above. ESPN+ has all out of market NHL games.

I don't either, Vessel. In fact, I was suspended for calling Houston the Septic Tank of Texas on the NFL Texans forum. (Fair enough), But it would instantly create a natural in-state rival with the Stars and I wouldn't mind driving 4 hours to watch our guys wipe them off the frozen water.

Austin-San Antonio would have been my first choice but this could hopefully spur a resurgence in the growth of minor league hockey (AHC, ECHL, SPHL, & FPHL) within our great state.

I think it's an excellent expansion opportunity for the sport. I just hope they don't name them something stupid like the Houston Bull Riders. The "Texans" is already bad enough. (I kid, I kid)

Austin/San Antonio has supported hockey more than Houston imo. The Aeros have failed multiple times, and I've heard quite a few Houstonians say hockey isn't a real sport. When I went to Aeros games in the '90s, attendance was bad.

This will be Atlanta's 3rd shot in the NHL. Not sure why they think it'll take this time.

I'm a live in Houston, Dallas sports fan, and I tend to lean on the side I'm not sure another hockey team in Texas works. I get it that Houston is the fourth largest city in the country and a massive market, but Hockey in Texas is STILL fourth on the list at best for much of the state. I could argue fifth or sixth if you include college and High school football.

Not saying it wont or couldn't succeed, but I think adding another hockey team to this state would be a lot going on, and maybe too much. To me, I think adding another Canadian team and then a team in Kansas City or Milwaukee would be healthier for the sport, rather than trying to force feed another hockey team in a southern market (which has blown up in the NHLs face quite a few times).

Agree with this. I work in Dallas and our company has a suite for Mavs stars and rangers. Stars is last on the list of what clients want to go to and it is by a long shot.

I personally love hockey and it is my favorite of those three but the general public in Texas just aren't hockey fans. And this is in Dallas where the stars have done a good job of building a fan base and obviously have the cup win that bought everyone in.

I don't follow hockey closely enough to understand this, but why doesn't Milwaukee/Wisconsin have an NHL team? They can support and basketball and baseball team but not hockey? Seems odd.

That's actually a real good question especially since the University of Wisconsin wins so many National Titles in the Men's , and especially ,the Women's program.

I think a Milwaukee team would have a tough row to hoe with the Blackhawks as entrenched as they are in that area.

Milwaukee really isn't that big so I doubt the NHL sees much benefit there. And I think a new franchise would owe a hefty chunk of change to the Blackhawks.

If they had a team before TV dollars became almighty, I don't doubt they'd be successful like their other franchises.

Anyways, Houston is a ****ty sports town that won't support a team unless they're really winning. They'll end up somewhere like Portland or Canada in a few years. But I would look forward to the cheap tickets as long as it lasts

It's very possible. But Wisconsin is probably the second or third most hockey crazed state in the U.S., so I think they could make it work. If you chose Milwaukee over Houston you'd be choosing a smaller market that would get behind the team more organically. While choosing Houston would be mainly for the market and financial support they would get, even though it would be adding another southern market team.

Houston is a great sports town when it comes to the Rockets and Astros. Houston is a terrible sports town when it comes to the Texans because they had their NFL franchise ripped from them and moved to Tennessee. Then replaced with one of the dumbest logos and brands in the sport. Those wounds will never heal in this town until the Texans win a SB.

I think Houston will embrace a new professional team just fine, at least in the initial years. The hockey fans and moreso the corporations will buy up the season tickets and it will be successful from the start. The real question is how does this look in five or ten years. Texas is a big enough state for two NHL teams, but the Stars have the history. How this goes I really have no idea

The Texans basically sell out every game. 11th in the NFL in avg attendance. To say it's a terrible sports town for the Texans is laughable.

Okay calling it terrible is strong. But the Texans do not generate the buzz around town like the Astros did/do, and the Rockets did/do. Now maybe that's because it's been very up and down for the Texans over the last decade or so, while the Astros and Rockets have more or less been consistently good to great outside of the random year. But the Texans do not carry the same weight as the Astros or Rockets imo.

Astros are clear #1 as they should be. But to me the Texans are easily the #2. But it might just be the circles you move in. I only know one person who could even tell you the Rockets starting five roster, the rest of my group doesn't watch them.

I still think there is a >50% chance that Plano taxpayers vote down the arena. The demo of the town has so many Asians now. When it comes to school bonds, everything academic related passes while sports related get shot down. Clark Field has 50 year old bathrooms and an asphalt parking lot with potholes so massive you could drive a car into one, yet they shot down a bond to fix them. Not some fancy renovation, just basic necessity. And you also have the wealthy Willowbend folks who don't want the traffic. Feels like it is far from a sure thing.

We're entering uncharted territory with owners and ownership groups across all sports right now. Between inflated franchise values, owners pursuing new all inclusive sports venues, and more ownership groups than ever, it feels like sports teams are increasingly more about making a dollar than really caring about being successful.
