Jones-ifying of pro sports?
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

I won't go that far. As Jerry has gotten older, I do think he cares about winning and pride in owning "The Dallas Cowboys" more than he does making a buck. He no doubt wants to make that dollar, but I think when you are his age or thereabouts, it becomes less about the dollar and more about legacy because you can't take that money with you when you go.

What I think the real culprit is, is TV contracts have inflated these franchise values to the point of out of touch with reality, and put them into a place only a handful of people can really afford without getting a team of investors together. And when you get a team of investors together, more people are going to care about their dollar being protected more than simply being successful.

It's interesting that Prime is the in-market provider only. Assuming it's still ESPN+ for us out of market people.

I hate prime with a passion. The amount of **** that ends up on my doorstep because it was easy for my wife to buy drives me insane. That said, here we go with "free" streaming!

I like this actually. Victory + always felt like a low quality/ poorly run product. Now Stars games will be on the Bezos servers. We shouldn't have as many technical difficulty issues.

Everyone in the 21st century should realistically have amazon prime anyway.

Pretty insightful article here:
https://www.starsthoughts.com/p/why-the-dallas-stars-moved-to-amazon

In short, APMC (the parent company of V+) is/was a complete dumpster fire.

The Stars (and I'm sure all of the others) took it in the shorts:
Quote:

"We were incredibly patient with them," Alberts said. "We did not receive 98% of our money that we were owed from them from last year, and now that is gone. That was one of our goals, was to try to figure out a way to salvage that, but we couldn't, at the end of the day."

For those not happy with going to Amazon, it could be a lot worse:
Quote:

The Stars will not be imposing any additional paywall beyond the standard Prime subscription. Alberts said other teams will have additional subscriptions required as parts of broader linear deals in conjunction with Amazon. Teams like Columbus and Minnesota have already announced a $19.99 monthly fee for their games regardless of whether viewers already have a Prime membership or not.

How in tf do you just lose 98% of your money involved in that deal? Were there not backstops or brackets?

Stars are doing right by and prioritizing their fans. It's the way access to sports should be run / handled.

The Rangers haven't done so well at this compared to other teams in the area.

Honestly much smaller than I was imagining. Man, those FSSW/Bally contracts were so much more lucrative (which is why they're no longer around I suppose).

They're also being investigated for fraud/tax shadiness

I know very little with regards to Sports TV Broadcasting but who owns the actual camera equipment at AAC used to broadcast the games? Do the Stars and Mavericks share ownership? Is there a company that leases out the equipment to various stadiums and arenas?

I know that at least any nationally televised sporting event (ESPN, NBC, FOX, etc) bring their own camera crews for coverage, but I fail to understand why in this age of digital streaming its become more difficult to watch your favorite local professional franchises.

Just like with everything else messed up in this country right now. Greed. Everyone wants a bigger piece of the pie and they don't care who they step on to get it.
