They want the smallest and tightest suits possible so there is nothing to grab. Water polo is full contact and opposing teams will grab anything and everything in the water if you have on a loose suit or one of the suits the competitive swimmers wear. This is why the women in water polo all look like they are wearing thongs, their suits are so tight they go up their ass.
Think football or rugby in the water and not soccer or handball.
