I understand why she got extended. We had just come off a Sweet 16 run but I think most people failed to realize that was done with almost all of Corbellis recruits. Gomez was an anchor and probably the best one year pick up for us that we could have. Hans had a unreal season Rush was a physical presence on the RS that season but not polished and it was basic offense from that said which wasn't our bread and butter

We went from a bad season in the final years of Corbellis that was much to do with strength of schedule and injuries than anything. It wasn't the roster. The Corbellis had always found a Diamond in the rough that they developed. Babers comes to mind in the recent past. I think we would have made the Sweet 16 the same year with old coaching staff but they would t have gotten Gomez possibly which was key.

So I completely understand the extension at that time. But I don't think anyone would have foreseen that Bird and staff recruiting would be more about detainment than anything.

So I understand why we parted with the Corbellis. Sure I do. We were stagnant at the same level of NCAA second round matchup loss usually to our arch rival. We wanted better. It hasn't happened.

I would not say she is the worst defender but we did have Hogan as an option and if you don't need the offensive production from the back row it is a viable option if subs remain. We sub Brooke for Lexi when Lexi moved to the right with Logan injury. No question in that sub situation as Lexi isn't ready to pass/ defend from back row at this level.
We also have Fields be a serving sub for whichever middle the Libero doesn't serve for. We should have a couple of subs left and using one for Hogan isn't the issue just didn't work that one time.

We had it in hand in sets three and four and couldn't finish which has happened a lot recently even when Lednicky was on the court.

Surprised CiCi didn't get in the match her senior day. We were 4-11 now 4-12 in conference and didn't let her play. Know if she is injured I understand but she could have started game one or come in to mix it up in game two when nothing was working. If not injured she deserved better.

We did senior night at the end and honored Lauren Davis who medically retired, Karakasi and Allison Fields who have no more eligibility left

Destiny Cox
CiCi Heicht
Maddie Browser

All of these players still should have eligibility remaining if Cox was granted a medical redshirt
CiCi has a Covid Year still if she wanted and Maddie is a reshoot junior so still has at least one possibly two years with Covid.

Losing them will not change the direction of the program but Browser had a great hitting percentage this year

Hopefully we win out the last two matches and end on a positive streak but we cannot finish above .500 again this year. Corbellis only had that happen once. The last season when injuries pretty much caused major havoc and played the toughest schedule overall in the country

The team played well the entire game. Defense picked it up as the game progressed. Most hitters .333 or higher except Guinn (0.200) but she didn't get many attempts.

18 blocks amazing no matter the opponent strength.

Mia did well and seems to find the smart shot easier.

Guinn and Cos-Okpalla pretty much shutdown their end of the net.

I agree with this completely, it has been sad to watch. Cici has always provided quality hitting on bad teams. She's been clutch when called upon. So sad to see she didn't get any sort of playing time.

Do you guys really think Bird is going to be fired?

I really hope so. It can't cost a lot to buy out one year. We're already a bottom dweller. Soon enough we will know what it's like to be Mizzou

Missouri and TAMU were at the top of the SEC six years ago along with Florida and rising Kentucky. Look where the programs are now.
Coaching changes at the two schools that were at the top and they fell to the near bottom and bottom.
Dabo Sweeney would not have the ability in todays climate to do what he did at Clemson I don't think. Upward trajectory has to be even a bigger curve nowadays but at least VB is given a bit more time because non revenue sport that doesn't have the fan base in an uproar.

I watched San Diego and BYU last night. Let's just say we have a long way to go to play with these teams. Hopefully a new coach, new attitude and some new players can get us there.

Wow! But probably for the best. Sounds like they are serious about getting this program back on track. Really curious to know who we bring in. I think this program is in need of a relationship builder.

I'm quite sure it's not "for the best" if you're a non-coach doing your best to support Aggie athletes and you get fired on Thanksgiving week for things outside your control.

Yeah not sure if that is the right move to clean house. Some players may be making tough decisions and to pull everything out from under them at this time could be a mistake. Maybe they already made a hire giving players assurances? Don't know why they couldn't just wait until a new coach is hired and given control over who stays.

The timing is questionable. But they are cleaning house. When would you have waited to make the moves? After new years? Lose a month of searching for new coaches and potentially recruiting?

Not sure either way would have been a win. Did we get a list of who was actually let go?

Also a fair point. I guess I was thinking more from the football perspective. I want almost everyone gone, minus a few! Haha

That is a bit surprising unless you have someone locked down for the job and they want to bring in a bunch of people as well. Some of the operations and staff have been there since before Bird

And on a side note the fact that the SEC got 7 teams in this year is a joke. We are at best five teams deep.

Some solid teams got left out over teams from the SEC.

Missouri fired their coach as well. So another SEC looking for a head coach. Kansas State also

Logan and Caroline make the 18 player all SEC team and Logan makes the seven player all SEC FROSH team.

She didn't make Freshman of the Year. Alexis Stucky the setter for Florida did

Not terrible, all was competitive except Tennessee and San Diego. This shows the team was close, just couldn't execute in big moments. Close but no cigar
