Last year in a tournament to kick off the season Hawaii beat us 3-0 and they return 5 starters from that same team! They also advanced to the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney!

Big 5th set coming up. Hawaii is the lowest ranked opponent we will face this weekend. Starting the season 0-3 with all the matches at home would be a fiasco. So, we need to pull this 5th set out and don't go anywhere near that potential hole.

Really important win against Hawaii.

There was a lot more at stake (given the opponents coming up in match 2 and 3) than you really want in a season opener with a lot of new players. Now we can loosen up and go try to get these remaining matches without the pressure.

Our outside hitters were quite impressive. Meuth and Lednicky will be and are great. Middle is where we are going to struggle. Setter made some bad sets early but seemed to settle in a little bit and I thought passing was better then last year overall after the first set. We have acouple of outside hitters who will play all 6 rotation which is nice.

I started the game with a lot of hesitation but came away excited. In the Bird interview on TA, she said some of these girls she recruited some years ago are finally on the team which I never really thought about till now. D1 stars commit 2-3 years out. Hoping this means Bird's recruiting prowess is as good as we had originally hoped for and she can keep up the momentum on that front.

I think if we can figure out serve-receive, get more production/blocking from the middles, we can do some damage for sure.
