On Norm and D, Saad said he's hearing "retread" and that it'll probably be DeBoer.

That would be disappointing. I really don't see anything where he has actually improved a team over time. Seems like there is an initial jolt of improvement and then flat to down trend line the longer he is in one spot

If so it will be the same stale Stars. I will give him a chance, but will be very disappointed as well.

Now that the Spitfires season is over, Savard has met or will meet with Dallas and at least one other team. If we let him go to another team and take DeBoer, Jim Nill better pray for a deep playoff run next season, or he'll be reassigned.

With that said, officially meeting with Savard is a good sign. Hopefully he impresses and turns the tide that seems to be favoring DeBoer.

In Savard's 2 most recent Tweets he compares the Spitfire fans to the Bruins fans. And after thanking everyone for a great season he ends it with @ing the Boston Bruins account and eye emojis. Gotta think he's gonna be heading there or at the very least it's at the top of his list.

Yeah, most of the articles out there aren't mentioning him as being a candidate for Boston, but I think he is on the list.

It does feel like he will get some consideration now and will be interviewed. It wouldn't surprise me if they hired him.

Savard obviously has ties to Boston, but that seems like a pretty bad situation for a first-year coach to walk into. He'd be smart to avoid it.

In non coaching related news, looks like Klinger is going to test free agency. The Stars are being linked to a possible trade with Montreal for Jeff Petry. He's a solid (not great) right handed defenseman that would cost quite a bit less than Klingberg.

A motivated Nichuskin has really looked like somebody worthy of a top-10 pick. That one hurts.

Pretty crazy how worthless he was with the Stars. He looks like one of the best players on the ice now

At least they're going to have to pay McKinnon in a year. They've been feasting off of one of the most club friendly contracts the past few years

Colorado actually has some tough decisions coming up. With MacKinnon's contract looming, Kadri, Burakovsky, Kuemper, and big Val are all UFAs and there are a couple of guys who's entry level deals are expiring.

DeBoer it is.

I'm going to try my best to be optimistic, but it's really hard to be excited by this.

Frick. I'm with you on this - not excited. I would have preferred an unknown than a 4 time retread

One thing that SHOULD be better is less dump & chase. DeBoer preaches puck possession. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

His results at both San Jose and Vegas are basically what Dallas has done of late. So expect the same? Make the playoffs, lose in rounds 1-2, repeat?

It's clear that Corey Perry has angered the Hockey Gods. His punishment must've been to skate out the rest of his career as a Stanley Cup runner up year after year after year.

He's the new Buffalo Bills.

DeBoer certainly falls under the "retread" classification, but he appears to know what he's doing 5v5. Not sure the same could be said for Bowness.

I'm pretty encouraged by this hire. He has been solid where he's been and last year even decimated by injuries his team was in the hunt for a wild card.

Now that I've processed it, I'm a little more encouraged. The knock is he hasn't won a cup. Well only one coach a year does. All it takes is the right coach in the right situation. He should improve our offense but will still uphold sound defense. After that, it's up to the guys on the ice.

The other part that I overlooked is that Pavelski played for him in San Jose. While I don't think he had a say in the hire, there's no way Nill brings him on board unless Joe gave his blessing. If he's good enough for Captain America, then by God, he's good enough for me.

To your point about adding O and keeping D. This sounds good

Dallas Stars article
Quote:

DeBoer had a 98-50-12 record in three seasons with Vegas, ranking 10th in that span. His teams ranked 11th in scoring at 3.27 goals per game, seventh in goals against at 2.75, second in shots on goal at 34.0 per game and fourth in shots against at 29.0. Dallas ranked 20th in scoring at 2.74 goals per game and sixth in goals against at 2.73. The Strs were 20th in shots on goal per game at 30.4 and 10th in shots against at 30.1, so there is a chance the new coaching staff can bring more of a possession game.

Lot to unpack from today's presser. But some interesting non DeBoer notes:

-Nill will be GM for the next few years but has been tasked with putting together a succession plan.
-Raffl has been offered but no response yet
-Nill is still actively talking with Klinger's agent but then immediately brought up the challenge of the salary cap
-Nill said he wants to move pieces around to free up space to go after free agents, but admitted that 20+ teams are in the same boat. Said the next 4-5 weeks will be hectic (between scout meetings, draft, and free agency)
-Ben Bishop wants a management type role, and Nill is exploring options for him with the Stars organization
-Radulov will play in the KHL and is officially not returning to Dallas or any other NHL team.

On DeBoer, I would encourage everyone to go back and watch the presser and listen to this morning's Musers interview with Razor. Granted, today was going to be all sunshine pumping, but a lot of positives to ease any misgivings.

It's not the same seeing the Cup skated without hearing boos for Bettman (he has covid so did not present the Cup.)

Pretty cool that Cogliano was the 3rd player to skate the Cup after Landiskog (captain) and Johnson (longest tenured Av).

Wedgewood has been given a 2 year extension. $1M per season.

Great signing. Otter as #1 and Wedgewood as #2. That's a great pairing
