I think the 4th, 5th and 6th photos posted by Aggie1944 is the nationally known Bengal Guards girls drill team from Stark High in Orange.

You are right about the Bengal Guards... they had just performed at Soldier Field in Chicago, then a few weeks later at Kyle Field.

I'velooked through most of this thread and didn't see anything listed about the Cushing Library's FLICKR Account:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cushinglibrary/collections/72157616940443974/

Totally outstanding pics from the 1800's, early 1900's, up to the 60's and 70's. Check it out.

Thank you for your service, 44. And do tell your children and grandchildren at least enough of your story so they can carry your legacy forward if/when faced with a similar daunting challenge to freedom.

Can anyone help me Identify the A&M players in these photos:

http://images19.fotki.com/v1612/photos/6/1267826/7797966/11AM-vi.jpg

I don't know what year this is but I think #80 is John Brotherton:

This is from 1970, the player's number is 12:

I'm going to take a wild guess, but I think this is Joe Mack King, who played QB for the Ags late in Stalling's tenure. Or maybe Lex James before a number change.

Moe,

That is Donnie Dean out of Louisiana. He started some in 1972 for Bellard then left. Was not a wishbone QB.

This has to be one of the best TexAgs threads ever. Thanks for all these great pictures and links! I gave my uncle's pictures (Class of '25) to the Cushing Library after I made some copies. I'm going to see if I can find them in their collection.

#33 is not even close to being Jerry Rogers from CC Ray...don't know who it is but it ain't him.

The 'Texas Aggies' in the horseshoe went away when the horseshoe went away to make room for The Zone.

Donnie Dean #12 in the previous posts was the QB for most of the year on Bellard's first squad. He was a square peg in a round hole but the 'best' choice in that year of great transition. Stallings had not recruited running QBs and this young man was a stop gap. He disappeared after that season - I was a sergebutt - and I don't remember him playing at all the next year. About a dozen players from the '71 squad, some starters, left the team right around spring practice in '72 I guess because they either - didn't fit into a wishbone style of offense, or, more cynically, did not want to lose their spots to some of the incoming players that Bellard was bringing to A&M - first serious recruitment of black football players. I would like to think that it was the first concept but there were probably some that fit into the second. I only speculate but some what had been All SWC folks departed. Its what it was. History is not always nice.

Yeah, that pic is Donny Dean.

Jerry Rogers is not a bad guess for #33 above because Rogers also wore #33. The UCLA-style shoulder hoops on the jersey suggests the 1963 or 64 season.

In the last picture #15 is Don McIlhanny but who he is handing the ball to, I cannot identify.

i didnt realize the texas aggies in the horseshoe part was there until the zone was built.

i dont recall seeing that in the horshoe in the 90's, i'm not arguing it wasnt there, i just have no recollection of it.

Texas Aggies was in the horseshoe when I attended A&M in the mid-70's and there were only two decks on the sides.

God bless all our service members past and present on this special day.

I think "Texas Aggies" was painted over (or the benches were replaced) long before the Zone was built.
