On Tuesday, D1Baseball.com released its 2023 preseason poll, and Texas A&M came in at No. 5. The top-five ranking comes after a 44-20 finish that saw the Aggies win the SEC West division crown and reach the final four of the 2022 Men’s College World Series.
Jim Schlossnagle returns six everyday position players from last year’s team that finished No. 3 in D1Baseball’s final rankings. Behind stars Austin Bost, Jack Moss, Trevor Werner, Brett Minnich, Ryan Targac and Jordan Thompson, the A&M offense could be potent once again. On the mound, Nathan Dettmer and Chris Cortez are expected to anchor Nate Yeskie’s pitching staff.
Texas A&M is one of four SEC teams in the top five, with Louisiana State taking the top spot. Overall, nine SEC squads are ranked, and joining A&M and LSU in the top 25 are Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Alabama and South Carolina.
Additionally, Collegiate Baseball listed Texas A&M at No. 4 in its preseason rankings.
The 2023 Aggie baseball season begins on Feb. 17 against Seattle at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
