Arizona's Nate Yeskie hired as Texas A&M Associate Head Coach
Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has made a splash hire as Arizona's Nate Yeskie will join his staff as Associate Head Coach, the official move first reported by D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. Widely considered one of the best pitching minds in the game, Yeskie becomes the second official addition Schlossnagle has made since arriving in Aggieland. Arizona State hitting coach Michael Earley joined the A&M staff on Wednesday.
Since July of 2019, Yeskie has served as associate head coach at Arizona, working closely with the Wildcats' pitching staff. In the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Arizona lowered their team ERA from 6.21 to 3.87. In 2021, Arizona returned to the College World Series for the first time since 2016.
Prior to his arrival in Tuscon, Yeskie spent 11 seasons at Oregon State as an assistant under legendary head coach Pat Casey and helped guide the Beavers to the 2018 national title. In 2017, Yeskie was named D1Baseball's Assistant Coach of the Year as his pitching staff posted a Division I-best 1.93 ERA.
While in Corvallis, Yeskie worked with 13 All-American pitchers and 10 freshmen All-American hurlers. Yeskie has produced 32 MLB Draft selections, with 17 going in the first nine rounds. Five Yeskie products have reached the big leagues, with Matt Boyd (Detroit) and Drew Rasmussen (Milwaukee) currently a part of MLB pitching staffs.
Yeskie played three seasons at UNLV (1994-96) and set a program record for strikeouts in a single season with 147 in 1995. He then spent five years in the minor leagues with the Minnesota Twins organization, reaching Double-A in 1998.
Following his playing career, Yeskie began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater in 2005, spending three seasons with the Rebels under head coach Buddy Gouldsmith.
Yeskie's addition to the Aggie coaching staff figures to bolster the Maroon & White's already-strong pitching tradition.
