that you never heard much of afterwards for whatever reason (grades, crime, etc.)?

Mine would have to be Dion Marion, RB from the early 90's Killeen High team that won state. He was a year older than me in Jr. High and I watched him from 8th grade through his Sr. year and thought he was a man amongst boys, great speed, vision, break tackles, the whole package. Any others that you remember?

i think mine would have to be two people, when i was little i was a major cy fair supporter and they had one of the best teams ive ever seen, screwed by coaching in the playoffs though.

on the team was ryan beard, he set the single game rushing record before celvin young broke it again, he went to michigan and blew out his knee then failed out, finished his career at a&m kingsville. would have probably had a great career at like a&m or something not quite as big.

also was bubba teague, the quarter back, bright kid but didnt apply himself, went somewhere and failed out then sat at U of H the rest of his career.

Randy Moss, period. It didn't matter how many people were around and where the ball was, he got it.

Ivory Lee Brown was the best RB and football athlete to come out of Palestine High before Adrian Peterson came along. Ivory had all the physical talent in the world but grades were a major issue...so much so that there werent even many JUCOs that would take him.

Ivory's raw athletic talent was so great that he went into the Pros after only 2 years of JUCO in Arkansas. Never really had time to develope and flamed out after only 2 or 3 years.

Could have been a great one if given the proper coaching and development at the college level.

(Hodwy Law! Knew we'd meet again on an Ivory Lee topic. Things are going well, hope the same for you)

Ivory Lee Brown, who had a cup of coffee with the Cardinals, was from my HS, but I was a couple of years younger.

Yo, Rob. Beat me to it. How's it going?

Played against Ricky Dudley who was a TE for the Raiders.

Side note - I saw Michael Johnson run track while he was still in HS. He blew away the competition, as you might imagine.

I ran track against him once in a 200. He was a lane inside of me. He made up the stagger in about 5 steps.

there was a RB out of Waco High, graduated in 91. Louis Fite. Problems with the law and not knowing how to add 1+1 were his downfall.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Piag, I remember Fite as well, he was damn good also.

Mack McCarter - best RB and surfer I knew. I can still see him shredding a five footer at the boilers. Known as "Smack" on the football team. Great human being. Found out he made bank V.P. in his obituary. He was the victim of an SUV rollover.

I went to Waco High with him. Graduated in 90. The other stud that was in Fites class was LaCurtis Jones, who went to Baylor. He got arrested and that's the end....he had a very mean streak. Actually they both graduated in 92. My bad.

You should remember Dion Marion then right?

Class of 77 Texas City HS.
We sucked
Can't remember any of thier names anyway, too long ago.

I'm sure there were some good players for LaMarque, Galveston Ball, Dickinson. I just don't remember that far back!

Just remembered the Hancock brothers, John, Joey and Kevin. All played college ball. Joey a linebacker at Vanderbilt, Kevin a linebacker at Baylor and Detroit (never played) for one season.
John is now a Hollywood producer, did "The Rookie" and the last "Alamo".

the name, yes. I was a baseball player, so I wasn't on the field. At that time, you couldn't play two sports (that only lasted my senior year)

dumbest rule that the WISD ever had...

Boobie Miles - And he was much better than the movie depicted.

I wondered about Boobie after watching the movie. I never knew anything about him but figured he must have been a stud.

James Battle, kid was a STUD QB for Denton Ryan, had offers from everywhere went to TCU to stay close to home, not on the roster anymore, never played, I think he's a SFA now
Matt in DFW
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I was shocked Battle didn't end up being a star at a big time program. He is at SFA but is having a tough time getting on the field as far as I know.

Tyson Thompson from Irving. Actually we were on ESPN because he ran 525 yards against us in one game. Plays for the Cowboys now.

I played against Thompson that same year. He was just the kinda guy that had everything go his way. He fumbled against us one time and it just bounced right back up into his hands and he took it for the score. He tore us up pretty good, but if I recall we held him better than every one else, especially ya'll Iamsocool. What school were ya'll. I remember hearing about that game. DaBryon Blanton was equally amazing at Forney, only his competition wasn't as good as Irving's. He went to OU for track though didn't he. I remember one game he went 7 carries for 7 TD's, and an unheardof amount of yards.

I would have to say that Caesar O'Neal from Huntsville was the best I ever saw. He was in school a couple of years before me and was a monster. He was even in charge fo kickoffs for the team and booted them through the endzone. He got a scholarship to Miami but when he got there they found out he had a cancer and unfortunately passed away about a year or two later.

Twone Simmons for Thorndale when they beat Crawford for the 2A state championship in 94? Big and fast. Never heard about him after that.

Marlin had a player in 94 nicknamed 'big freaky'--don't remember his real name. Was a RB, ran like a 4.5/4.6 and weighed around 240. Every school in the country was after him but I heard he never qualified. Jerome Bettis clone.

Brandon Everidge, DB for OU, had an older brother at 2A Granger that I played basketball against. He was a better athlete than Brandon but was a definite grade casualty. His nickname was Superman and he had some nasty dunks against us. We still won the game though.

John Henry, Lorena HS. Went to Baylor and at one time held the Baylor record for rushing yards in a game. Same year as Rodney Thomas, they played against each other in the State Championship game in 89'.

Audrey McMillian Carthage High School. He graduated in 1979 and played q.b. for cougar high before seperating his shoulder twice. He moved to d.b. and played a few years in the pros.

Kendrick Starling, Marshall HS, Marshall, TX. Graduated in 1999. Would've been one of the top 10 or 20 recruits in the country if it hadn't been for a combination of grades, arrests and all around baggage. Maybe the best punt returner I've ever seen in 5A football, and no question one of the best 5 WRs I have ever seen.

Boobie was the best HS back that I've seen including Benson. He was similar to Benson with power and quicknes, but he had more breakaway speed. He was more complete than most HS backs probably because his junior year, he mostly played FB blocking. If you look up his vitals, they are not accurate because Permian listed all of their players smaller than reality. Why? I have don't know, but he was like 6'2 210-215.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Mr. Randy Watson, I believe all of the players you listed wound up being pretty good after high school.
