Jerrod Douglas (Converse Judson)

Dude was simply amazing..........Ran 362 yds against Willowridge High in the 91 Quarterfinals (They lost the Semis that year to another Badass.....Dion Marion from Killeen)

Douglas ended up at Baylor (unfortunately), adn I don't know where the hell Marion went.

Hart Lee Dykes-WR(Bay City and Okie Lite)

That damn fool used to terrorize cornerbacks in the Mid 80's

Craig James (Stratford High 1978) and Eric Dickerson (Sealy 1978) were some bad blazing mother fockers too. Craig James is arguably the fastest white boy that I have ever seen.

Brandon Stewart and Ronald Brown..

Everyone knows about Stewart, but Brown played for 3A Brownfield TX. They guy had it all he was 6'2 230 ran a legit 4.5. Was a farm kid so he was strong as an ox. Problem was he was about as dumb as one. He was being looked at by Tech, UNM, and UTEP, but flunked out of athletics in the second semester of his senior year. I think he is the garbage truck driver in Brown field now. Sad to the guy rushed for 1500 yards as a senior and was first team all state.

Joe Fraga - 5'4, 260 lb running back/linebacker from Runge, Texas. He only played 3 games as a freshman. He ran for over 800 yards and had over 50 tackles in those 3. He ran a 4.5-forty, benched over 400 lbs, and could haul hay for 2 days straight without a drink of water. Sadly, he got deported before his 4th game. For 3 games, he was a god...

Played w/ Robert Strait at Cuero 85-87. He was an amazing HS back. Bi-District playoff game against Smithson Valley in 87 he scored every point in the game (47 pts). Can't remember the totals for the year, but it was ~3500 yds and 50+ TD's. Very strong and fast as well. I never saw one person bring him down by themself unless it was an ankle job.

Weighed 210 or so his Jr year (87) and ran a 50 flat 400m (State champion mile relay team in '88). BTW, he also made the state meet as a shot putter (56+ ft), and high jumped 6'4" in Regionals. Can't say I've seen another RB match that! An all around physical specimen. I wish he was playing on Sundays!

Bubba Hill from LaPorte.

Curvin Richards was a great one but he doesn't fit the "didn't pan out" part.

BTW, Randy Simmons is a great guy. Working in Austin for Coca-Cola.

Reggie was unstopable in high school, he made defenses look silly.

Have to say Alan Faneca, as well. As to the 2 running backs Lamar Cons had that year, Starski Banks ended up at North Texas and James Autrey at Florida A&M. Running behind Faneca didn't hurt, but they were good in their own right.

I know i'm not sticking with the original topic, but in football best player I saw is easily Michael Huff, and Marcus King(mizzou). Both graduated from my HS.

Best i've seen that didn't do anything. Phillip Fuller. Man he was so fast, and had vision like nothing else. He'd turn a 2yd run into a 10, and a 10 into a TD. He was just to lazy to do anything. Got a schollie to Wisc, failed out, and then didn't even take JC classes to get into Texas State.

In BB, Greg Ostertag, duncanville HS.

Ben Gay. He was a helluva player in HS.

I'll add a player that no has mentioned yet: Joe Bob Bizzell.

Joe Bob was a flanker and DB for Odessa Permian in the early 70s and was a Sr. on the undefeated State Champs in 1972. He was small (5'9", maybe 145 lbs soaking wet), but was a tenacious player who had a knack for leveling 200 lb RBs and leaving their carcasses for the buzzards. Man, that guy could hit! In fact, he was All State on both offense and defense for BOTH his Jr and Sr. year!

Got a schollie to play for Darrell Royal to play cornerback (back in the days when they scholarship limits were far looser than today), but Joe Bob got caught smoking dope in his freshman year. The way the story is told, Royal wanted to get his team's attention about following team rules and needed a sacrificial lamb. TAG! - Joe Bob was it, an expendable freshman that wouldn't cost the team much.

Never heard about Joe Bob Bizzell since.

Sad. He would have been fun to watch in college... and maybe pro, too. You never know.

When I was a kid, we were in the same district as Van Vleck and Boling, so I got to see George Woodard AND Billy Waddy. All Ags know who Big George is. Billy played any and all skill positions in High School. Went to CU, I think, and was a receiver for the LA Rams when they went to the Super Bowl...dude was fast.

Thurman Thomas, man among boys in high school, ran all over Westlake in the playoffs. NFL Player of the year, 2 time all pro, 3 time AFC rushing champion, 4 time Super Bowl loser.
