After losing my generally healthy aunt and uncle (both around 69-70 years old) neither extremely obese and knowing of so many others (31-60s) who I have met throughout the years who have died or been close to it, I just don't get how we still have so many who are so against getting vaccinated. It just fascinates me that there is such a divide on the topic. Now on the other end, I have never heard of a single person I know or a "friend of a friend", that have claimed to have an extremely severe reaction to the vaccine but so many people on here have. So odd to me to see the contrasts in all of this, makes me wonder which side is exaggerating. I don't think vaccines are perfect but clearly they are better than doing nothing no matter what metric or conspiracy article that is out there. Right? Or am I wrong for thinking this way? Anyways it's just fascinating to see this play out and how people can see things so differently on this. Politics I get the divide but I can't wrap my head on the vaccine polarization.

I'm not sure what "not extremely obese" means, but I think the vast majority here would agree that anyone 70 years old and obese, even if not extremely obese, should strongly consider being vaccinated.
no one who's died, but do know a coworker in his late 20s who was hospitalized for 4 days. he was overweight, but otherwise had no comorbidities.

The mother of a friend of a friend died from covid. Given the age of my friend, she had to be over 60, maybe older. MIL of a friend also died from it. She was also in her 60s and had a variety of pre-existing conditions, yet still decided to travel from New Jersey to Florida (which is where she developed symptoms and died).
I have a couple of friends whose parents were seriously ill/hospitalized with Covid. I'm not sure any of them are back to 100%.

However, from what I've been told he was pretty sick with covid for like 10 days, including fever and breathing problems, and never went to see the doctor until he collapsed due to low oxygen and almost immediately went on a vent.
I personally know one other serious case from a colleague
- late 40's, low-end of obese, diabetic- knocked him on his ass and put him in the hospital for a week. Fully recovered.
However, literally every single other person I know who has had covid had very mild cases that resolved in a couple days to a week at the maximum.
And every person I know who got vaccinated was knocked on their ass for a couple days with flu-like symptoms.
Personally, I've had covid. It was extremely mild- just fatigue and body aches for about 36-48 hours. This was right after Thanksgiving last year. Actually was curious so I went to CVS last week and on 8/12/2021 I'm still exhibiting covid antibodies. Given the rate of breakthrough cases appears to be exceeding reinfection in those with natural immunity I see no reason at this point.
44, fat, not diabetic, good BP, no cardiovascular issues, etc. (all per a recent physical in March). Working on getting into better shape- I've lost 33# since about May through better diet and swimming. I've worked up to swimming 1600m (about 1 mile) each morning. Today was my fastest mile yet at 1:03:07.

What I mean is dad bod fat 30% or so but technically obese by many charts I have seen. People who could lose 10-30lbs is what I am talking about.

Regarding deaths, I always see the issue of obesity and comorbidities, but how many were also smokers? I don't see many people citing this as another factor in Covid mortality...and I would think it should be.

Damn, that sucks. Luckily my family does whatever I ask them to do when it comes to these kinds of things. Would kill me to know My parents were not vaccinated.

More and more it seems like it not just obesity but cardiovascular fitness. So if you carry some weight but get a good sweat and HR on a regular basis it is likely protective from severe covid. If you are overweight but can't climb stairs without getting out of breath you probably need to do some more working out not just to control BMI but to increase CV fitness.

I'll be attending a funeral Saturday for my previous boss who passed away last week at the age of 59. He was visibly healthy but not sure if there was something elegy going on. In a matter of a month his mother n law died, his mother died and then he lost his fight after going on the ventilator.

I personally know four people who have died with covid pneumonia and one who died of an aneurysm while sick with covid (they said the covid had nothing to do with it, and I don't doubt that, but I also know that if she had been vaccinated the anti-vax crowd would be blaming the vaccine).

One person who had leukemia passed and another who was going through chemo almost died (he's back at work). The others who got it (about 20 that I know) were on their ass for the week without hospitalization, but haven't mentioned any lingering effects since.
Its all about perspective. If you're watching the news all day or work at a hospital then your story would be a complete 180 from mine.

2 recent. 41 year old A&M fraternity brother and 39 year old neighbor. Both young and in shape. Neighbor has 2 young kids.
I've had several patients who have died from COVID and some family members of friends who have died. But no family members or close friends of mine have died from it.
And zero patients/family members/friends have had serious complications from the vaccine much less have died.

I have friends who died of the virus before vaccine was available. Several.people I'm friends with at work lost family members to Covid before vaccine was available.
In time there has got to be some sort of genetic sequencing research because there are plenty of people who should have been absolutely hammered by covid who barely got sick and others in pretty decent shape without other risk factors get knocked on their ass and some died.
There has to be some sort of physiological difference that's not apparent on the surface. Perhaps at the genetic level.
Or maybe it's because I used to eat tacos off street carts in border towns before the risk of lead poisoning got too high that gave me a strong immune system.

Why no vaccine? Always this question. Because we don't believe anyone knows anything about this vaccine. I think a lot of people that took it are scared ****less now when all these inconsistencies have been revealed. They're scared and they don't want to be alone, so they push the mandates

To be clear, I still fit the definition of obese but working on it. That being said, I'm an ex-college football player a couple years ago did one of those electrical measurements of body fat vs. lean body mass and at 0% body fat I'd still weigh like 240'ish. My goal is to get to like 270-275 and if I can maintain it without being miserable I'll go for 255-260.
8 knee surgeries and being bone-on-bone in both knees with the corresponding arthritis at 44 ain't fun. But I also wasn't fat before I blew out the knees.
