I just took my daughter in to get tested. She moved to CS for summer school. She has been sicker than a dog the whole time she was there...tested for covid twice and both times were negative. Doc has her on old school antihistamines and is sending her off to get allergy tested. She's never had these many allergy problems in her life. I'm tossing it up to moving to a new area. I remember being sicker than a dog when I moved to Austin so I hope it really is just that.

We have had a tremendous increase in common respiratory viruses (RSV, parainfluenza, coxsackie, HMV) and, assuming she is college aged, they do things that often lend to massive transmission of these pathogens. That is more likely than grass allergy but the only way to really know is the allergy testing.

Took my first test yesterday, and just got results. Background on me:

29 years old
Not vaccinated.
PCR positive for covid in December 2020.
Somewhat mild case. Felt bad for a few days but recovered shortly after. Lost smell but not taste.

I am a high school teacher and am trying to decide if I should get the vaccine. To the health care workers or experts here, are these numbers good for adequate protection?

That still shows robust immunity likely don't need vaccine yet. Hard to tell or predict when it will drop off without trending data over time.

Would T Cell and B cell response still provide longer term immunity even when the above numbers drop?

Not a Dr, but looks like she needs a booster ASAP.

Get Moderna.

This looks like good vaccine response with no wild antibodies, same as myself last check.

Probably but it is not well defined. Under research over the last 12 months.

That's low but it takes a few weeks to build. Your 2nd draw will be a lot higher.

register online (link on page one I think) so you can get the detailed numbers. Otherwise you will only get a positive/negative text.

Edit to ask: why is there such a drastic difference between the Moderna and Pfizer antibody numbers? Obviously I've only had one shot but would've expected it to be higher than that

First Pfizer shot 8/5, so 18 days post shot as I had blood taken yesterday afternoon

Spike
109

Negative for natural

Curious to see how much that spike number changes once I receive the second shot

Hey, KidDoc,

Mr. Geo and I just got our antibody test results this morning. We're both surprised that our natural antibodies are negative because we've been around several people who have tested positive soon after we were with them. It seems our vaccines worked.

He had the Moderna vaccine four months ago and his Spike number is 2194.

I, on the other hand, had the Pfizer five months ago. My Spike number is only 216.

My question for you is, should I try to get a booster or dose of the Moderna if I can?

Also, my parents live with us. They also got the Pfizer a few weeks before I did. Should I try to get them boosters of the Moderna?

They haven't had the antibody tests, but I'm assuming their numbers are like mine. They have not had covid, and they've been living life normally, going out and about as usual (no mask, of course). They're 84 and 81.

I'd appreciate any advice you might be able to give.

Missed going yesterday after work. Had a late request come through and didn't get out till 6.

Going at lunch today.

I maybe shouldn't be, but I am sort of surprised how many people are negative for natural 1.5 years in. I hope i am wrong, but to be honest, I expect to be negative for natural. Only can think of two times I have felt sick-ish and no high temps or loss of taste/smell. While I am not licking doorknobs and living wild, I have been back in office for 13 months, family goes out to eat weekly, go to church every Sunday and teach 5 year olds, and go to social gathering frequently, all without a mask. I know others who have hunkered down and still get delivery for food and groceries and wear mask and WFH that have gotten COVID. So confusing.

I had a vet med professor who religiously wore a N95 mask whenever she was outside of the house and made her young kids mask. She came down with it and I never wore a mask and didn't.

It is really hit and miss on who gets it.

I asked my pediatrician friend about this. She said it really didn't matter. Your body would kick the antibodies into high gear if it was exposed to COVID.

I got Moderna as well and I was in the 900's.

As far as being exposed to COVID and not having the natural antibodies, the same can be said for my daughter. She was fully vaccinated in May. She's been around lots of teenagers all summer long from summer school and fish camp with COVID. She continues to test negative for the virus and antibodies.

They STILL have not released the data on which they based the booster decision. So I have no way to really advise you on this.

There is a lot of consternation about this recommendation, it is not without controversy. At this point I have no intention of getting a booster until there is more data (Moderna dose #2 1/29)

Post your results if you don't mind. I'm in Aggieland so cannot really enroll in the study and my 2nd dose of Moderna was 1/29/21.

Anyone in Texas can enroll in the study. I live in College Station and participated. There is a CPL lab in the medical building next to St. Joe hospital on Rock Prairie.
