The governor has been building up some hype ahead of his planned appearance Tuesday afternoon in West Texas.

He will be in Lubbock to talk about small businesses and his office said he'll make a statewide announcement.

It's not clear what that will be but Abbott has indicated he will say something soon about whether he will relax pandemic restrictions including the statewide mandate requiring masks in public and limits on business capacity.

I think some small businesses will have some hard choices to make.
I wouldn't doubt if some business owners are uncertain how to proceed for their client base and employees. The mandates are/were useful as cover. Now owners and managers are going to have to address the issue directly with clients and staff.

Where I am we'll vaccinate to herd immunity, in Texas they'll transmit their way there. Doesn't make a lot of difference to me though, since by the time I visit in August it will be all good.

The progress on case counts, hospitalizations, or deaths?

Because if most of the most the 1a and 1b groups have been vaccinated, then case counts can go up, but hospitalizations and deaths, in theory, shouldn't rise to critical levels.

Should be interesting in places where masks are pure theater like wearing a mask into a restaurant or gym.

Seeing the break between cases and deaths is the end point, but the death data lags and is really bouncy. It's going to happen but I think they are just starting to see it in Israel and they are way ahead of us.

But yeah it will be awesome when no ones uses cases to drive restrictions.

exactly, my small local gym we all wear masks but also not really and restaurants are basically for show. however it only takes one person to make fuss..

My gym still asks people to wear them walking in or out and in the locker room. Maybe 10% wear them in the actual workout area
