Aggie catcher Bear Harrison selected in the fifth round by the Yankees

Hear him roar!

On Sunday, Texas A&M catcher Bear Harrison was selected by the New York Yankees in the fifth round, 160th overall.

Harrison becomes the fifth Aggie taken in the 2026 MLB Draft.

The brother of big-league pitcher Kyle Harrison, Bear — whose given name is Connor — spent two seasons in Aggieland after earning WCC All-Freshman Team honors at St. Mary’s in 2024.

His second year as an Aggie was by far his best as he emerged as one of the SEC’s top catchers and proved to be clutch for Michael Earley & Co. as a junior.

In 53 games that included 52 starts behind the plate, the 6-foot-3 and 230-pound native of Danville, Calif., slashed .297/.495/.626 with 46 hits, 50 runs, 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 35 RBI.

Of course, he was also plunked by 23 pitches, setting the program’s single-season record.

Bears are also deceptively fast, as this one succeeded on all three of his stolen-base attempts this spring.

Beyond his offensive prowess, Harrison proved to be a much-improved defensive catcher in 2026. He gunned down 11 would-be base-stealers, allowed just three passed balls and committed just two errors on 470 total chances.

Across 140 collegiate games, the Northern California kid hit .292 with a 1.010 OPS, 128 hits, 106 runs, 30 doubles, 30 home runs and 104 RBI in 439 at-bats.

While replacing Bear will certainly be a bear, Aggies everywhere are likely roaring with approval.
