Baldwin got a hit yesterday, but lost her position due to pinch runner..... that is one point of SB I haven't quit figured out. Didn't exist in the dark ages when my daughter played. or I have forgotten. BTW she played ball at Conroe HS

Catcher will likely be a pretty competitive position next year. Arial played 3rd at Florida but she is a catcher as well. We also signed a top 5 catcher in the country in Maddie Sauni

Cottrell was a 250 hitter with only 2 extra base hits in conference last year. She draw quite a few walks though.

I wonder with the lack of midweeks and the starter only playing 2 games a weekend how hard it is for the starter to get in a groove hitting

In college starters can re enter the lineup one time. Subs have no re entry. That is different from some tournament team organizations like ASA where starters and subs can both get ine re entry

Stats over a short period like this can be misleading. I doubt Amari leads the team in HR at the end of conference play. KK has struggled some but also had a few well hit balls that didn't fall. Her only hit is the homerun dead into the wind against Florida. On the other hand Mac has good number but until has had some bad at AB that fell for hit. Until yesterday she looked very out of sorts. Hopefully she returns to form and at the end of conference we see her at the top of HR table
Yes, short term stats can be and often are misleading. But note what I wrote:

"We had a big drop off in conference last year. Kramer was only hitter above .300 in conference (.311). But tougher teams so understandable but hope conference BA improves this year. Amari is showing she really missed starting. KP hitting like freshman year at UCLA. Hope these continue. Spots 6-9 in the lineup were outstanding in non-conference but really dropped off. Love to get it back."

Note that I used last year stats in the beginning. The big drop off in conference last year. That's over 24 games. I said I am hoping conference BA improves this year. Simple thing, hope. Also mentioned Amari and KP doing really well so far BUT added "Hope these continue". Not at all suggesting that Amari will lead the team in HR's at the end of the year nor made any indications or projections about the rest of conference play based on stats from only 5 games, only hope. Note that Amari had one HR last year and the two this weekend were hard bit balls but wind-aided. Wind-aided or not they still count. I mentioned the wind in the thread during the game and hoping we could put some balls out of the park because of it. Amari did it not too much later. I love Amari, she plays lights out and is a wonderful person. She is not a power hitter but a contact hitter. She was surprised as heck that the first one went out. We all were.

I love the freshmen playing, I talk about them all the time in the threads. KK's stats HAVE dropped down, so have Frankie's. Simple numbers. I still love them. They WILL do better. Note I added about 6-9 in the line up - "Love to get it back." I WOULD like to see DeeDee get more playing time, more chances, I DO mention that a lot.

Yes, often really hard hit balls are right to a defensive player. I mention this during games. It sucks when this happens but hard hit balls often get through, over, to the wall, etc.. I fully understand the stats do not show this.

I also mentioned that tougher teams in conference so almost a certainty that stats wil go down. Heck, our big power hitters all dropped off last year in conference. Allie and Jaz really dropped down. We saw the frustration on their faces and in their body language. Look at last year's stats overall and then in conference. Big changes. Again, hoping that we can do better this year.

Note also that I fully support the team and none of what I wrote is criticism, just showing history through stats and hoping (there is that word again) conference stats are better this year. I always back the Ags regardless. I realize that players in all sports have slumps, a player can put too much pressure on herself, to do too much, etc. All part of the game.

Everyone wants consistency. Players, coaches and fans. But it's a hard sport and there are ups and downs. Even with them last year we still did well. If we can be just a bit more consistent the sky is the limit. The word hope comes into play again.

My apologies if my post came across as argumentative. Just trying to add context to the stats.

At catcher I would prefer to see Ojo sit less and when she does I prefer DeeDee get the opportunities. The coaches have been running Coleman out there with very little return for years i acknowledge that as fans we see less than 10% of what coaches see. I always try to look deeper and see what I am missing. In this case I don't see it yet but doesn't mean it isn't there.

No problem at all. There are a few people on this forum that I always pay attention to and you are one of them. I just wanted to clarify my remarks and, as I often do, wrote too much !! <darn it>

Your comment "... as fans we see less than 10% of what coaches see." is right on the money. I think about it all the time but do not think I have ever mentioned it. The most obvious result of this is who starts. The coaching staff work with these players every day, for hours each day. They talk to them all the time. They know them physically, mentally and emotionally. So, for example, when I might wonder why Hailey Golden or Scout Lovell (sophomores) or Reagan Jones (redshirt freshman) or Larisa Perez (freshman) or whoever do not get more shots I also realize that I do not see them in practice. They might have had awesome stats in HS but the coaches see them all the time and think they need more seasoning, more coaching, etc. and other players are further along.

This fits in with my constant chatter about DeeDee. She was awesome in HS but maybe she is just average in practice. Gracyn has been on the team for a couple of years and has never hit well but coach keeps using her when Ojo is not in. So, I ask for DeeDee to get more chances. But maybe she is not showing a lot in practice.

Same at every other position. In the end, I rely on the coaches because they know a heck of a lot more about softball than I do !!

I think a lot of it is that Gracyn has been in the program three years and has caught Kennedy more than anyone else on the team. Also, for all her failings at the plate, she has improved her catching a lot in the last year. It also helps her that she's been coached by Harger and Co. her entire life.

Hopefully this is just a one year thing that the team will work around.

Important game, Coach goes with Lefty. And both Mya and Mac's bats, too. Expected Ojo behind the plate.

Interesting to me that coach is starting "Lefty" again after we have already won the series. I get that we want the sweep, but I wonder if coach just wants Lefty to start the game. It seems in her last 2 outings that she has been a little off in the first inning and issuing a few walks. I also wonder, since we have so many pitchers, if it is harder to maintain a good rhythm between games so that you are a little rusty starting your next game and it takes a while to settle in and get your rhythm.

Umm she's your ace, you threw her every game of every series if possible... Softball isn't baseball the pitcher literally could pitch every day... If... Needed

I agree concerning Guerin. She's their best pitcher. Transfer from OU. I think if we start doing well against their starter she will come in fairly quickly like on Friday.

Wind blowing out again so let's put a bunch over the fence. Always with runners on. Allie hit it hard yesterday but they were caught at the track - today they will make it over !!
