Vaughn does not equal Jimbo. He makes 900K.

The way he built that DBU program won't work at a major program.
He didn't build the DBU program. That program was dominant all the way back in the 90's when they were smoking SWC schools.
Well, as a former player at NAIA DBU in the mid to late 80's, we did well against SWC and other D1 schools. However, Heefner has taken the program to levels we never experienced. By all accounts, he is a great coach and leader of men.

I cannot predict the future if he is the hire, but his teams will be prepared, will play hard, AND he will be a man of his word.

Can he recruit and play the tough NIL and transfer portal game with LSU, Tenn, and the big boys? If so where's the proof?

I want a baseball coach that is qualified and hungry. We all know that Heefner can coach baseball. Baseball is baseball, it boils down to being prepared for or against the team we are playing against. I feel that Heefner and his staff will work hard to win. That's what winning is all about.
I hope everyone sees what you just pointed out.
We've had enough "splash" and obviously just got rid of "trash".

Cracks me up the responses on here. "We need to hire a guy from the SEC or ACC" Heff would be a home run hire. As a former player I want someone who can bring in guys that can play, but are also willing to work their a$$ off to get where we want to go. His track record speaks for itself. Not to mention he relates to the younger generation of players. He will kill it at A&M. Hire him now, in my opinion.

Edit: Baseball is very different than any other sport, family matters. You have to win the player over but have to win the parents over more. Parents invest their time and money all year long in baseball. If you aren't honest with the parents you lose the kid.

I just don't think he'll be able to recruit at a high enough level

I'm totally cool with Heefner. I'd much rather win games than win press conferences (although whoever we hire will probably win both considering how LimpNoodle dropped the ball so hard).

In today's world of college sports, Heefner won't have to recruit in the same way as old school recruiting. Bags of cash will speak and being a personal human will comfort fears of parents. If he needs a Braden Montgomery, Aggies United can do the heavy lifting.

The fan base is already invigorated. *****nagle pissed everyone off and I'd be willing to bet there are people donating bags to Aggie Baseball that couldn't list all 16 SEC head coaches. They wouldn't know a splash hire from a dud when it comes to actually coaching ball. Hire the right guy, not the guy that instantly flips the bird to the sips. We can do that in the spring when we kick their ass in Olsen like we have for the past decade

Just ignore the posters that clearly have no idea how great a hire this would be for A&M.

The proof is in the data. Shame people can't see it, would be a home run hire.

No doubts he is a great coach. My question would be if he can recruit at an SEC level and against the dirty competition.

And his reputation as a players coach would be known to our current squad. Backed by some NIL, I think most would stay.

The name does not matter as much as the results…A&M is always chasing big names and it has literally never worked out a single time.

Dont you think its time we try something different? This applies to all sports not just baseball

I'm more interested in how well he develops players more than how he recruits. He sends lots if kids to the Bigs. See Jimbo on recruiting. But still a fair question, but we can't assume he can't. Not a big enough risk in my mind to not give him a shot.

Development of players is actually the most important item for recruitment.

All fair points, and I'd definitely support him if he gets hired. I just know Brauny has talked about the talent "entry fee" in this league and we saw the difference this year for sure. I was hoping we could continue that level of recruiting moving forward with the increased NIL funds.
rev27
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I think of development as different than recruiting. But I may be parsing things too much because he has put a ton of guys in the league.

I don't know why it has to be such a binary conversation of the best or not even close as the only options. My personal preference is O'Connor with Heefner a hair behind. Still would be ecstatic with either one and both would be a massive W for us and would be a relief to me if we could nab either one.

It's a win/win, Ags

We are talking tournament baseball. We don't need to develop fine men etc etc.

Stomp on babies and kick puppies to win 3 game series is what we need at the end of the year.

My fear is we fall back while he is "getting his sea legs" in the SEC and we are 3-4 years down the road and back to mediocre.
The risk is going back to being the a give a coach a shot at being good school. Not a we win 80% of the time school that only hires proven coaches.

O'conner would be a more sure thing. He has actually done it. Not in the SEC but at least he has been there.
aginresearch

O'Conner would be a home run as well. If these are the final two then we'll have a great coach.

Real question - If he is such a good coach why hasn't he gotten out of DBU for 17 years. Is their Alumni fund paying him a fat stacks because DBU isn't exactly the biggest stage in the NCAA or the best spring board to Omaha.
SonOf_an_Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Putting people in the league is a falsehood with NIL. Jimbo put people in the league. We need to win and for that you can't give guys 2-3 years to develop.
Texmexag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A mid major coach with an entire mid major staff rarely works out at the big time SEC level in any sport. The SEC is a back alley knife fight, not a place to learn. Can he or anyone on his staff play the talent acquisition / NIL and transfer portal game at a high level? If not, he won't be successful. As a fan I have no interest in waiting 2-3 years for players to "develop". Gotta win now and the only way to do that is to be ruthless at keeping and acquiring talent ready to play and win now

He's been offered, but chose to stay @ DBU.

(Off the top of my head)
Baylor 2015
Horns 2016 (Pierce was their 3rd pick, Heefner 2nd)
I am sure there have been others since.

Money isn't everything to some people. Maybe he has been looking for a good fit.
