I also think that if a fan catches a foul ball the batter should be out.

This is akin to automatic touchbacks or fair catching kickoffs. Those new rules have killed the excitement of kickoffs in football. Dumb idea.

No. Fouling off pitches wears down the pitcher and usually ends with a base hit. Otherwise, we should just change the name of the game from baseball to hurry up ball to satisfy this generational need for immediate gratification. Learn patience people!

This is an idiotic idea. Batting is one of the hardest things to do in all of sports. And you want to penalize batters that are really good at protecting the plate. Just asinine.

Yes they do. It's smart batting and it gets pitchers deeper in the pitch count earlier in the game. There's other reasons to do it and it's part baseball.

Hell, I taught my highschool son to do it. If he has two strikes and a ball looks close on the corner, he can foul it off and hopefully the pitcher leaves the next one over the plate.

Unlike the rest of you comedians, I support the OP's visionary proposal.

To offset the new disadvantage to hitters, college baseball should also allow one batter per inning who reaches base to maintain possession of their bat, which can be used as a club against fielders. That would be cool.


I like this but let's take it one step further. If you go an inning without anyone reaching base then you get to carryover the missed club wielding runner to a later inning. Imagine having the bases loaded and everyone has a bat!
