I don't think any MLB team with a natural surface is going to want that many games played at their stadium (i.e. Houston). IIRC, the Rangers decided against continuing to bid for the Big 12 tournament because of this.

One of the reasons I thought of the Superdome is that the main tenant isn't in-season right now.

Tampa is a thought though...

2022 SEC Baseball Tournament Bracket

What is up with the 2nd round "bye" teams records on the bracket:

  • ARK 50-13, 22-8 SEC
  • A&M 29-27, 9-21 SEC
  • Vols 58-18, 20-10 SEC
  • LSU 28-25, 13-17 SEC

How hard is it to get the right records entered into the bracket?

For the longest time MLB did not like in season tournaments during its season since it causes scheduling issues for them and so many games over a short period of time is hard on fields. With the BDF tournament at Globe Life Field things have obviously changed. I wonder if the fact that GLF has artificial turf is a factor in the being allowed to host this year. Or maybe MLB is just trying to tighten the ties between college and pro ball.

Big game on the NCAA Tournament bubble right now...

In the A Sun Tournament, Liberty just tied the game at 3-3 against Florida Gulf Coast after falling behind 3-0. Going to the top of the 5th on ESPN+ if you need a baseball fix!

Tarp back on the field.

Without ESPN+, Pitt vs Ga Tech is all I have access to. It's on ACCN+, and it looks like it's being shown on Bally Sports (and probably other regional sports networks) in a lot of the country.

1. Rain is a part of baseball.
2. Watching ball games in cavernous indoor stadiums is #notFun.
3. Rain delay, so I've switched to watch the ACC tournament. I've always been a very low key fan of Georgia Tech.

I'm watching the ACC tournament too. The color guy apparently played for Georgia (I don't know who it is though) and was talking about Hoover just now.

It can always be moved to our Double A stadium here in Amarillo, its like the sahara desert up here, we rarely get rain. Plus it would be good for me to be able to go to some of the games. LOL

I think that the typical male SEC fan would be at the Big Texan knocking down a 72oz steak with ease prior to game 1...

I was thinking OKC would be nice! I loved the Big 12 tournament up there. The Big 12 has abandoned it and with OU and t.u. joining, the middle of the SEC is shifting more west. It's not outside the realm of possiblity.

Best way to guarantee rain -- attract a week long, major outdoor event under the premise of "it don't rain here"

I love Bricktown, but the Big 12 Tournament has had problems with tornadoes and severe weather a number of times. OKC is in the heart of tornado alley.

Question is what's the point of the SEC tourney. I can't imagine it makes money or it can't be that much, not in comparison with other money the SEC makes. Why not nuke it and slide the season back, let teams schedule a earlier 3 game set with OOC opponent.

The setup with Bricktown in OKC is fantastic.

I know rain can't be predicted, but it sure seems like we get delays in Hoover more often than not. Have to be some better options in the SEC footprint for a late-May tourney.

WTF are they showing softball during the baseball tourny.

at least 6 SEC baseball games were played last weekend - and no one who wanted to watch softball missed to watch baseball.

Sorry, but that's just stupid media.

The totally selfish part of me wants it at Busch Stadium in STL. No one in Missouri gives a rats ass about college baseball, but Busch is *beautiful*. Would be heaven for me to be able to go to a game and not have to pay Cardinals prices to get in.

So we really want to introduce SEC young men to Panhandle women (read Raider rash)?
OnlyForNow

STL would be easy in and easy out (flights) for teams and fans.... but not centrally located.

It's primarily setup to help bubble teams and not harm top teams.

It's also a nice dry run for tourney teams to see what the back half of their pitching staff can do in a tourney situation against good competition.

Go to the pool system when we add teo more teams whenever that occurs

Less games overall needed

Guarentee of seeing two games of your team

3 games instead of 4 for first four days on a playing field allows some movement due to weather

and move to minor league ballpark rotate every two years between 5 stadiums within the SEC blueprint

From what I understand, part of the big draw of Hoover is it is RV friendly. That creates a large number of annual attendees that make it an event on their calendar.

Thankfully I don't think this actually produced a tornado but it was absolutely awesome to witness. This was just prior to cramming into the restroom with about 1,000 of my closest friends, 6/20/2011.

The tarp crew (getting the field covered in those conditions) and the team mascots (slip n slide style entertainment after danger passed) were the real MVPs that night
